Precursor in Contact with Nintendo on Shadow of the Eternals on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

With news of the spiritual successor to Eternal Darkness this week, Shadow of the Eternals, the studio have confirmed Nintendo's involvement.

Whilst Nintendo don't appear to be helping out with development of the title itself, developer Precursor have been in contact with the Japanese gaming giant. On the Shadow of the Eternals website, the studio confirmed that "they have been very supportive of our endeavour to bring this game to their platform."

For now, there's no mention of "Eternal Darkness" in the  game's title, but the project is intended to be the spiritual successor and includes Denis Dyack on the team.

What do you think of the first episode of Shadow of the Eternals? Will you be supporting the project?

And this SHOULD also remain a Nintendo console exclusive, PC doesn't count since it's not a gaming "console" but soooo much more!! X)

It is not wise to speak on subjects you do not know all facts about, nor is it smart to judge a game based on looks alone. PSN: Nintendo_Gamer 3DS: 4296-3029-7422

Can someone explain to me about Precursor games? are they part of Silicon Knights or has Dyack left them?

Wii Code: 6399-3866-6269-0745
PSN: SherWiinator Currently playing: LOZ: SS
Wishlist: Last Story, Pandora's tower, Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3

So is this gonna be an Eshop thing? Or is it gonna be Retail?

I'd assume its gonna be e-shop because its episodic, as for silicon knights i'm guessing they're bankrupt after epic counter sued them.

If Nintendo wanted it to remain console exclusive, they should step in and fund it. Dennis Dyack and co know how to make good games, they just don't know how to run a business. N

Pretty much. Silicon Knights never should have stopped being second-party. Things were great for them back then. Everything fell apart as soon as they left Nintendo.

I disagree. I think cross-platforming is underrated. It's good for players because they get exposure to games they otherwise wouldn't, it's good for developers because they get a more consistent revenue stream with very little additional work (doesn't take much to port between platforms, but they'll sell about as much on each console as they would on one, so theoretically sales increase exponentially) and if there's more revenue, there's more stability and chance for franchising.

I think the console wars are stupid and should have ended years ago. Each company brings their own little quirks and features to the table, each has faults and merits, but at the end of the day, I'd be happiest if I could play all the games I love without having to throw down $1200 for hardware every five years.

The benefit for several consoles is that it pushes the hardware manufacturers to innovate and excel due to the competition. Without that competition, they wouldn't need to try as hard resulting in crappier hardware.

As for this game, it would be a nice plus for the WiiU if this was exclusive. Nintendo need to start grabbing games like this to start filling the eshop with more unique exclusives as smaller digital games are getting more and more popular on consoles, and an exclusive episodic title would be nice to have.
