Rumour: Can the Wii U GamePad Output to 3D? on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

According to a Ubisoft representative, the upcoming Assassin's Creed III will feature 3D support on both the TV and GamePad.

The publisher held a launch event for Assassin's Creed III today, and according to IMGMR a Product Manager revealed that the Wii U version will support 3D output on the main screen, if a 3D TV, plus supposedly output in 3D on the GamePad as well - for a dual 3D experience with glasses.

Neither Nintendo nor Ubisoft have yet to comment on the potential 3D output on the GamePad. The console had been confirmed to support the technology, but "that's not the area we're focusing on", company president Satoru Iwata said in 2011.

It's certainly an intriguing addition to the Wii U's mysteries.

Would you play Assassin's Creed III in 3D with 3D outputting from the GamePad as well?

Intriguing, i have a 3D TV so would be good to see this on my tele! :O

3D TV support is pretty much a given. 3D support for the GamePad? Eh, I doubt they'd of kept something like that from us for this long. Who knows, though?

Switching away from the 3DS for a second requires your eyes to refocus...I can imagine switching between a 3D TV and 3D Gamepad image may be a little disconcerting, same as one being in 3D and the other in 2D...or I may be wrong!  Not having 3D support from the WiiU seems, well, almost impossible given the graphics chipset in the console most likely natively supports 3D...

Anyhow, 3D Zelda anyone? Smilie

I feel like if this were true, Nintendo would have announced it a long time ago. 3D on the pad wouldn't be considered an Easter Egg, that's a huge feature.

For a moment I thought this was glassless 3D on the gamepad, but alas. And that would have been impossible to keep secret until 2.5 weeks before launch.

As for 'glassed' 3D on the gamepad... would be a nice bonus, but I thought Nintendo was trying to keep costs down?

Unlikely...polerising the controller screen - or having it support refreshs high enough for shutters - would make it even more expensive.
They could do 3D like the 3DS, but we would have seen it already if that was the case.
