Ostrich Island is a unique mix between an adventure (explore islands and search for collectibles) and a platformer (jump over dangerous waters, run and kick stuff), with a slight hint of role-playing game (level up and gain new abilities). It comes from the mind of Finnish developer Yaroslav Bakh of MeDungeon Games and is currently in the process of securing extra funding via a campaign on Indiegogo before its planned 'End of 2012' release date.
Presently, Ostrich Island is planned for Windows, Mac, and Linux for a price of 5 Euros / US$6.50, but MeDungeon Games today informed Cubed3 that should the crowdfunding initiative prove successful, there are plans to bring the game to Wii U in some form, most likely via the eShop.
Below is a beta version of the game, along with preliminary details on the features included:
- The ostrich gains experience points and upgrades with new skills and abilities;
- Lots of collectibles and hidden bonuses. Once discovered they can be closely examined in the bird's nest;
- Two difficulty levels: "Relaxing," where players can slowly investigate the islands, searching for collectibles with nothing to worry about, and "Escape," where constantly rising water levels add some stress but increase score multipliers in return;
- Global leader board and country scoreboards across all platforms.
