Two of the most anticipated Nintendo franchises have gotten a nod from Shigeru Miyamoto for a possible outing on Wii U.
Whilst Nintendo would be quite bonkers not to release a new Legend of Zelda or Super Mario Bros in 3D on the new system, there are a string of franchises that top fan lists to receive fully blown HD treatment. The veteran Nintendo designer expressed a desire to see a new Star Fox and Metroid on the new console - neither of which have been confirmed.
The teams usually consider franchises that can appeal to the technology in some way; that would make more sense than a straightforward sequel. Miyamoto sees the second screen and gyro being used for a "lot of interesting opportunities for development" to bring "games to life in a completely unique way".
Whist not delving into any specifics, we can assume he would mean the likes of having a visor display and other tidbits controllable from the GamePad screen.
Miyamoto was even more vague when quizzed about Star Fox, but the franchise he created almost two decades ago is one he would "personally" like to land on Wii U.
Back in May we came up with ideas on franchises that should return on the new console, plus how the GamePad can be used in new ways - these included both Metroid and Star Fox.
Would you like to see either franchise in glorious high definition?
