Leaked Rayman Legends Trailer Reveals Wii U Features on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

A leaked trailer for an upcoming Rayman game reveals some nifty new features exclusive to the Wii U edition.

Rayman Legends is due across multiple formats, including Nintendo's upcoming home console - but Ubisoft is keeping schtum on the new game. However that hasn't stopped a leaked trailer from doing the internet rounds. It reveals the same stunning hand-animated art direction from its predecessor.

It shows a multiplayer setting, where the lead player plays with the Wii U tablet controller, whilst others make do with Wii Remotes - offering different control methods and gameplay mechanisms when playing with a friend.

One of the more interesting features was the ability to use near-field communication to react to near-by objects. For example, a heart is placed onto the WIi U tablet and voila - it triggers life hearts to shower onto players.

A rabbid figure adds a tonne of enemies to the screen and a passing glance at Ezio Auditore from Assassins' Creed suggests some form of cross-over as well.

Have you guys ever thought of the possibility that the fans may be partly to blame for the nostalgia elements in recent Mario games? I don't know about you guys, but I sure have read a lot of comments wanting the Tanooki suit and other old power-ups back before Super Mario 3D Land came around. When it did, a ton of people complained that it only let you float for a bit and they wanted its original power, being able to fly, back. After the recent unveiling of NSMB2 for the 3DS, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Nintendo did just that by bringing Raccoon Mario back. Do you seriously think that Nintendo would be trying to bank on nostalgia when nobody is asking (in some cases begging) for it? I sure don't.

Just now finished Rayman Origins. Fine way to breath new life into a done-to-death genre. So much to do and incredibly difficult to boot. Ubi revived Rayman in style. I'm incredibly happy they saw fit to do a sequel and love the medieval settings introduced.

Now if only Crash Bandicoot could get a reboot of the same level...

One thing 2D Mario needs is time trials! Crash had it, Rayman has it, people love speed running. Such a shame Mario hasn't brought time trialling into its levels yet.

Didnt it? (sort of).
I think both MarioSmilieX had it.
I also think most of the 3D Mario games had it too - you just didnt have any easy way to compare or share them with others.

The fact that fans love something is a good reason to being it back.
But NOT as the soul saleing point of a game, or the main gimick.

I can come up with dozens of new platforming ideas, and I am just one person. Maybe not great ideas, maybe unworkable, but still, new stuff. (or newer):
-
How about a 2D controlled game where the landscape you run over is a cross-section of a 3D landscape. By pressing the triggers L/R you can move the crosssection forward and back to solve puzzles.
Would work great on the 3DS, as you could have the 3D landscape as a shadow/ghost image in the background.
-
How about given mario the ability to temporarily leap into other creatures bodys? Not new, but new for a mario game.
--
How about a mario game where one person plays a traditional NES-style mario game, but the other person is playing a "Tetris style" game with the landscape - dropping new blocks in the right places just as the other person needs them.
--
Ok, thats 3 ideas of the top of my head.
I am sure people here can think of more. I am sure Nintendo can think of more.
WHY DONT THEY!?
Id buy any of those games - I am not buying any of their current "NEW" stuff because its not new.

Id rather see Nintendo try real new stuff and fail then too keep doing carbon copys of older stuff.

Or if they are going copy other stuff, why not look to the net for inspiration.

You seen that mari0 portal game? Aside from the portals it has tones of neat features.

What they need to do is sell a Super Mario World/Mario 3 Level Editor to play on Wii U and 3DS and let us share levels with each other online. The stuff people come out with on emulators is insane, and would have infinite replay value. Gamers come up with things developers can't even imagine, so level editors are a must for so many games these days.

Yeah, just imagine the ability to draw on the Wii U controller screen and place the drawings in stages you've made. For example, you could draw your own backdrops and objects, giving it your own unique style.

I love this idea... please make it happen, Nintendo. If New Super Mario Bros. 2/Wii U doesn't have a level editor/creator... I think I'll be a little disappointed. I still have a lot of fun with the NSMB games though, therefore I'm not gonna hate on them as much as other people. Smilie

Origins was a brilliant little precision based platformer. Easy enough to pick up and play, but difficult to do all the treasure chest challenges, time trials and the hidden level

So good I bought it twice. (once for £15, then full price for the vita).

I'm glad it did well enough to get a sequel

I hope that Etzio part is true, I preordered the collectors edition of AC2 & actually got that statue...PLEASE Ubisoft let me use it in the game!!

It is not wise to speak on subjects you do not know all facts about, nor is it smart to judge a game based on looks alone. PSN: Nintendo_Gamer 3DS: 4296-3029-7422

I'm gonna buy it though (and millions of others will too) because it's exactly what I want. A traditional 2D mario.

Leave the wacky crazy stuff for the 3D games.

It's kinda funny hearing all the praise for Rayman, it's a great game and fantastic looking but....it's a near carbon copy of New Super Mario Bros Wii.
You have the multiplayer, you turn into bubbles when you die in multiplayer, and even has the collectable hard to get big coins scattered throughout the levels.
