Shantae Likely Coming to 3DS Virtual Console on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Shantae has become somewhat of classic and many fans of the series have frequently asked whether the game would be coming to Nintendo's downloadable services. Fortunately, WayForward responded with positive news. The company announced through their Facebook fan page that they're actively trying to get Shantae re-released on the 3DS Virtual Console.

With Game Boy titles now being released on the 3DS eShop, we are frequently asked if we plan on bringing the original ‘Shantae’ to the service.

We have nothing to confirm at this time, but we can say that we are actively pursuing the re-release of ‘Shantae’ on the 3DS Virtual Console. As soon as we have anything to report, we will let you know. Until then, keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter pages for future updates.


For now, Shantae fans can purchase the games sequel, Shantae: Risky's Revenge, which is avaible through DSiWare on the Nintendo DSi, DSiXL and 3DS systems.

This one, I might pick it up if it comes Smilie. The cart sells at ridiculous prices, so something along the lines of Zelda DX (also a color game) in terms of price would be good.

I also want to pick up the DSiWare one Smilie.

That would make for a great game on the VC and we could finally experience the original that gave us such a great DSiware game. Now, could you also do a 3DSware sequel?

The DSiWare game is worth every penny, it's easily the best title on the service...so low is the quality of Nintendo's own products.

I'm happy about this despite owning a boxed GBA original.
