Dragon Quest IX Dated: July 2010 on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

The much anticipated Dragon Quest IX for Nintendo DS has finally been given a release date in Europe and the US: July 2010.

From July RPG fans will be able to take the much loved series from Square Enix onto the DS, with custom designed heroes and companions in a completely customised quest. In Sentinels of the Starry Skies You play as a guardian of a city who's sent out to retrive fruits from a sacred tree that have the ability to grant the beholder wishes. Fearsome foes, a traditional storyline and a colourful cast of quirky characters await you.

Hardcore fans can also play the game without actually playing the game - by using a unique "canvassing mode" - with the DS interacting wirelessly to other players, passing over information on your characters, maps and customised greetings: "'Sup Dragon Quest fan?", "Yo yo want to check out my big beast?" and the like.

Nintendo will be publishing the game in North America on July 11th, with Europe following just under two weeks later on July 23rd 2010.

That's such fantastic news! I know it was previously down for a 'Summer' release, but it's great to have a firm date locked down.

With more than 4.3 million sales in Japan so far (including the budget version), it'll be interesting to see how well it does in the West with an extra push from Nintendo, especially considering the faltering DS software market right now.
