Descent Returns on Nintendo WiiWare on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Interplay and G1M2 have announced that they will form a partnership to bring gamers the classic title Descent to Nintendo's Wii download service.

Interplay has confirmed that Descent is expected for initial release during Fall 2010 and is planned for electronic distribution through Nintendo's WiiWare service. This will follow the Gameloft version of Earthworm Jim that will land on DSiWare later this month in Europe.

Descent remains the most popular 1080º 3D blasting game. Translating its 3D worlds and game play to WiiWare is an exciting move. Following Clayfighter DSiWare and WiiWare, and Stonekeep WiiWare, Interplay continues to redevelop its fantastic portfolio of games.
- Hervé Caen, CEO of Interplay.

Descent will pair perfectly with the motion sensing Wii Remote controller and we can't wait to show players how intuitive the game play and control can be.
- Scott Hawkins, the Founder of G1M2

Are you pleased to see so many Interplay IPs making a return? What else would you like from the publisher's back catalogue?

So, will this be a port, a remake, a new game? I was under the impression that the Earthworm Jim game on DSiware is just a port of the SNES game while the PS3 and 360 will get proper remake versions of the game.

Descent was dope! I remember loving it on the original PlayStation!

The DS screens have a very low resolution (256 x 192 each). The SNES had various switchable screen resolutions, the lowest of which was 256x224. So even from the SNES to the DS there will be an unavoidable visual-hit. They could add the odd effect here and there, but really the assets are all displayed in a lower resolution than even the SNES.

You cannot expect a DS version of Earthworm Jim HD (HD = High Definition). 360 and PS3 max-out at 1080p, which is what EWJHD will probably run at (720p at least). Just be happy that such an awesome game is available for your DS in any form. It will look extremely-close to the SNES version.

So will Decent 1 ever be redone for the xbox 360?
