The Professor Layton franchise has become one of the most successful on the Nintendo DS. The games combine fantastic puzzles with beautiful cut-scenes to tell the games' stories. Most likely due to its success and critical praise, OLM Studios produced a Professor Layton film in partnership with writer Akihiro Hino, the designer of the Layton games. OLM are responsible for the recent Pokémon films also.
The film, which was released in Japan last year, is finally making its way to the UK, thanks to British animé distributor Manga Entertainment. It will be available on DVD and Blu-Ray formats and released sometime in September. Manga Entertainment have said they have only licensed the film so far, which could mean a title change. Its original title is Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva.
With the first film making it to the UK and the games continuing to do well, hopes are high that the third Professor Layton title will get a UK release.
