Shantae: Risky

The November issue of Nintendo Power has spilled new details on the upcoming DSiWare episodic Shantae.

The much loved platformer from Wayforward is back on Nintendo's portable, but this time will come as a 3 part episodic series to download. The first entry - Risky's Revenge.

  • Risky returns after being defeated in the original game, along with Rottytops and her brothers.
  • Risky's Revenge takes place in areas around scuttle town; desert, caves, "underwater mermaid land".
  • Battle monsters in the overworld to find labyrinths that contain puzzles, treasures and bosses. Have more traditional/platform elements.
  • Magic items don't disappear when used, can be refilled.
  • Now contains save rooms - and Shantae doesn't have limited lives.
  • Transform into a monkey, elephant or mermaid. Can combine transformations - each come with upgradable specials.
  • WayForward is inspired by 8bit and 16bit platformers like Zelda II, Castlevania II, Rygar and Super Metroid.
  • Top screen houses the action, with the touch screen holding your inventory.
  • Contains intro and 3 chapters.
  • Episode length comparable to Nintendo's Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES) - after you've gotten the 3 pendants.

Thanks to NeoGAF for the tip.

What do you think of the move to DSi downloadable episodes? Do you think there's a market for it?

I was going to complain about splitting this up into three parts but then I realized that the infrastructure for distributing full games via download most likely isn't there yet.

However, this may turn out great, so I'll keep an eye on the game.

Id much rather it be split up, as I'm not sure If Id like it or not.
