PS3 Slim Sells More Than 2x Nintendo DS in Japan on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

The new slim build of the PlayStation 3 has already been a massive success in Europe, but also has sparked a rise in Japan. However, despite the fact that the combined sales of all PlayStation 3 models was more than double that of the DS family, software sales were hardly boosted, with most people simply picking up the new Gundam game, rather than dipping into the system's rich back catalogue. Gundam Senki hit No.1 with nearly 180,000 sales, but was closely followed by seven games on Wii and DS, with new entries for Konami's Love Plus at No.4 and Level 5's 2nd Sloane and MacHale adventure at No.8, whilst Nintendo and Nikkei's financial title nearly doubled its total sales in its second week of release thanks to good word-of-mouth.

well no shock here just wait for ff13 lol when the next Big N game coming out?

alot of ppl been wait for a cut and a slim to come out wii had the good head start but it need to get the games out

A lot of those sales could have been people upgrading maybe? Would explain the lack of software sales.

Understandable, really.

New (bargain) console model, lots of sales.

I would say that the lack of a boost in software sales shows that most people are still buying this for Blu-Ray functionality and not games.

Either that or they are cheap skates and were buying used games. lol

It seems there was an initial shipment of 200,000 units, so the fact it didn't completely sell out straight away says something. There are reports of used PS3 Slim consoles already appearing as well...It'll be interesting to see how much it sells in the update later this week.

Next week's sales update will also see Tomodachi/Friend Collection break a million on DS! With Pokemon HeartGold / SoulSilver already passing a million as well, the DS has now passed the SNES's total of 28 million selling games in Japan! Smilie

I really hope the mind-blowing success of the PS3 Slim teaches Sony a well-needed lesson about how to price their products...

oh well congratulations to sony... though the
sales of PS3 slim in America is not that big,,,
still Europe and Japan love and adore PS3 slim.
job well done...
