New Rage of the Gladiator Trailer - First Boss Footage on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Following the debut trailer a little while ago, Ghostfire Games has sent us over a new video for their upcoming WiiWare title Rage of the Gladiator. The new video shows off a boss fight for the first time, a battle against shamed noble and evil magician Lord Vensor the Third. Vensor enjoys the sound of his own voice, experimenting upon nearby peasants, decorating his evil tower of doom and shooting magical things out of his hands.

There are also some new screens in the album.

The single player-only game is inspired by the likes of combat timing games such as Punch Out and allows players to develop their character one of three ways: offensive, defensive and magically, each allowing different powers. For example, those on the defence path might heal themselves during battle, or you could summon tornados if you choose to put on your robe and wizard hat.

Rage of the Gladiator is due out sometime around Autumn on WiiWare, with the price point yet to be determined.

How do you think the game is looking?

LMAO wtf is with the voice acting, I haven't seen voice acting this bad since the SNES days. It'll do good as a comedy game.

Scott here, one of the developers at Ghostfire Games, makers of "Rage of the Gladiator"

I'm happy to talk about the game and answer any questions you guys have.

Enjoy!

Ok, i'm gonna like this game, the voice acting is pure cheese, so hopefully this game isnt taking itself seriously, it can either be epicly funny or just cring worthy fail, all depends on the rest of the game from here, but i think its looking good.

Looks rubbish.

I like the voice acting, it's pretty comical.

Hi. Nice/smart to ask for feedback from gamers.

I didn't bring my ear phones, so I can't comment on the sound. But the game looks like it might be a fun WiiWare title. I guess the biggest advice I'd like to give is this:
Pick a style and really go with it. When I see the trailers, I don't know if it's supposed to be a serious or a funny game. The graphics look realistic, but the animations are silly. The voice acting is cheesy, but the music is epic (I think).
The combination turns out pretty bland. Another 'meh'-game, like some reactions show.

So if it's supposed to be a comical title (like Punch-Out), you may want the graphics to show it. I don't mean you have to use cell-shaded graphics, but it can still have a more cartoony look without it.

Good luck!

Hey Scott.

Some quick questions:

1) Did you also work on Helix? Did the title's sale meet expectations? I've enjoyed it since launch and wanted to know if it has been worth it so far for you guys.

2) Any idea on the release window and/or pricepoint for Rage of the Gladiator?

I answered the second question for you right there in the news story - Autumn (Fall) this year, no determined pricepoint as of yet.

Canyarion - Very interesting feedback. Thank you.

As far as our style goes, are we trying to make the game serious or funny? Well, like any good production, a play, movie or book we are trying to illicit all the emotions. I would say our goal is to make a game that is serious combat action, but doesn\'t take itself too seriously so that we cant laugh at ourselves a little bit.

Eden -- Yes, I did work on Helix. I did the level design for 19 of the 26 songs. I had a ton of fun playing and helping to make that game. As far as Helix\'s success, the game has done well enough to allow us to step up our game and make this new project \"Rage of the Gladiator\".

And Mason answered the other questions.

The graphics are looking really good to say it's only a WiiWare game. Smilie
