Rumour: Ocarina of Time Wii Remake? on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

In what looks set to be an early attempt at an April Fools, word has surfaced on a Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake for Wii.

According to Gamefocus, the announcement of a full-blown remake of the classic Nintendo 64 title would be on April 5th, revealed to them via a 'Japanese Contact'.

Late last night, our Japanese contact over at Nintendo sent us word about something really exciting: a Wii remake of the one of the greatest N64 games ever produced: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. We were also told that an official announcement would be made around April 5, which is the North American launch of the Nintendo DSi.

While the whole announcement made us really excited, announcing the game alongside the launch of the DSi made us ask ourselves one question that went unanswered: Is it going to have some kind of DSi inter-connectivity?

Although a remake of the game isn't completely out of the question, one only has to look at the Virtual Console release of the original game, and the confirmation of a Nintendo team currently working on the next Wii Zelda, to doubt the validity of this article.

Would you like to see a Ocarina of Time reimagining soon, or indeed ever?

Some people would say the same thing concerning an FFVII remake... Although I genuinly think FFVII has aged badly compared to OoT. I mean OoT actually had a proper translation! None of that "This guy are sick" crap.

Well I think it's a great idea.
With better graphics, it would probably be easier to notice things. However I do love the original n64 graphics.

I think if they did make a remake, that Majora's Mask would be in it, perhaps Majora's Mask could be Link's dream during the 7 years he's asleep in the Temple of Time. I've always wondered if that was the intention of Majora's Mask, since Link was a kid in it, and when you finish OoT, he's a teen. Makes sense to me.

So when you play the remake up to when Link is asleep, you start playing Majora's Mask, when you beat that, then you play the rest of OoT's story, however both would have new things added. Although remaking the Majora's Mask part would have to be done carefully. I remember trying to beat the original, and having to restart the 3 days so often because I kept running out of time. However better graphics aren't needed, just a rewrite of the Original would be enough for people to buy it.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time is a classic!
But not just ANY classic!Smilie

It has been at the top spot of the list with the TOP 10 games of ALL TIME since its debut. It has been the basis for all the adventure games you see out there. The first of its kind and of course the one that makes our hearts shiver with sheer joy just by remembering it or just by merely hearing those legendary tunes of the game.

For many it has been the game that started everything for them. The game that got them into playing more games. Yes! The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is much like a monument which should be preserved, never to be changed into something else.

It is my humble opinion that a ReMake of the game would be at least an insult. We should not sacrifice it for a few bucks!

Thank you!

I agree that it's a monument for the gaming world. However a remake would not be bad for it. A remake that just enhanced the graphics, not changing the story or game play, would appeal to the younger gamers, the ones who weren't even born when the original came out. I know some of those kids, and when I mention OoT, then just give me a look, and say "The graphics hurt my eyes." Or something about the game looking old. Some kids have even told me that if the graphics were more realistic, then they would give it a try.

The truth is, kids these days, don't appreciate the classics. when they see the old graphics, they just turn away from it, saying things like, "Those graphics suck" or, "That game looks old, it probably sucks." The fact being, Most kids born after 2000, or the late 90's, have maybe only played the classics that were brought back for the GBA. And the reason they played them, was because either they didn't know they were from 10, 20, or 30 years ago, or they knew, but the graphics were "acceptable" for them being on the gba. I knew I got the gba re-introduced classics because my NES, will restart whenever it feels like, leaving me frustrated and having to start all over if i didn't save. But if you even show a kid a NES, they look at it like it's just a disposable camera. They have no interest in it. "It looks cheap" some even say. Yes, it can break easily, but you're not supposed to be carrying a NES around with you all day like you could with a Gamecube. And any veteran gamer knows that a working NES, is much more expensive than a Gamecube. However if you give a kid a working NES, they might just sell it for 5 bucks.

But back to a OoT remake. It's not the worst idea out there. If you must, think of the remake with enhanced graphics, maybe a few tweaks here and there, would hardly be a remake, but more of a polished version. Making it look new, when it's infact nearly 12 years old. And you can't possibly just sit here and tell me you would not be interested in seeing the game with more modern graphics, and hearing the original music redone and orchestrated. You may not want to play it, per say, but just seeing how it looks and feels, would be interesting.
