Resident Evil: Dark Side Chronicles - First Trailer (Update) on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Capcom's recent comments of Wii-owning Resident Evil Fans to be 'very happy soon' have been explained in the latest issue of Famitsu, with Dark Side Chronicles.

Update 1
Additional details from IGN:

  • Darkside Chronicles takes place in Resident Evil 2's Racoon City - city turned to hell due to T-Virus.
  • Players control Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy in on-rails, Umbrella Chronicles styled play.
  • Enemy no longer Umbrella (hence the different title), focuses on darker areas of the RE story and character history. More horror compared to the original.
  • Scenarios from RE2 will be included, with various past characters including Shelly Birkin.
  • Makes use of the Havoc engine for realistic physics.
  • Replayability being improved, and also accessibility for newer players. Seasoned shooters can use the dynamic difficulty system from RE4/5 for a tougher experience.
  • Parnter character shown on screen infront of you - in single player mode.
  • Game is about 35^ complete, without a final release period set.

    Update 2

Fresh from Capcom's Resident Evil 5 Event today comes the first footage of Umbrella Chronicle's sequel.

    Original Story
From what can be gathered from the scan of the article, Dark Side Chronicles is a direct sequel to Umbrella Chronicles, and will be set out in the same way: as an on-rails shooter. It will also be made by the same development team, Cavia. The scan shows both Clare Redfield and Leon S Kennedy, showing that Dark Side Chronicles will cover the events of Resident Evil 2 (or quite possibly, the Degeneration Movie) that were omitted from the first game. Code Veronica is also expected to be referenced in this title, judging from the recent comments of a Capcom Employee.

More is set to be revealed on this game on the 12th of this month, as Dark Side Chronicles is expected to be properly unveiled at an event at that time.

Are you happy for an Umbrella Chronicles sequel, or would you prefer a game in the style of Resi 4 Wii Edition?

It looks okay. I'll probably still get it. But it still doesn't make me "very happy."

Yeah it was a big mistake on there part to get people hyped for this (and two ports wtf?!) I mean I enjoyed the original but I got it as a present and I wasn\'t exactly getting over excited about a sequal, it\'s just one of those games you don\'t get excited for even if it is good.

I\'ll probably still get it though after playing the ridiculously easy Overkill I am up for a challanging light gun game.

Looks really good to me, I wonder when it will be out.

Nintendo Network ID: LKR000               PSN: LKR000
    3DS: 1246-8696-120                              GT: LKR101

Looks like a better version of Umbrella Chronicles, what with your partner being on screen. Good stuff - shame it's not the proper RE that we want on Wii really.

That doesn't sound like the same voice actor for Leon as the one in RE4. Not a big deal or anything, just something I noticed.

Looks like a lot of fun to me. I'll repeat something said earlier, given that there is more emphasis on coop play: please include online coop play! If they do, that will move this game from a need to pick up pretty soon to a have to get on launch day game for me.

I'm a fan of RE, and I enjoyed RE:UC. This game seems to have better graphics, physics, and gameplay (also, I want to see how they mix both or the main character's stories together) so it's a must buy for me.

I'd love online co op to be a feature on it, although single player in umbrella chronicles was great fun, reminded me of time crisis 3 except with zombies XD

It sounded like him, to me.

    DO NOT WANT.

    when will capcom freaking learn?

According to IMDB.com, it is Paul Mercier in RE4 and in the Degeneration movie, so he probably is doing this voice.

I quite like the look of it, I really liked the first one and it looks like they've upped everything in quality.

And I don't see why people say there are too many light gun games on the Wii. What there is, is not enough other types of good games.

Now with the trailer being shown, it looks very good - if they included ingame scenes there. At least they brushed this one up.
It *looks* great, shows fluid playing. But who knows what it will look like in the end...
I give it a thumbs up, but we all want a major entry in the series exclusively for Wii, don't we?
And I don't think RE5 is a RE anymore. It's good, very good, but RE4 felt better when small number of foes where on screen, when the horror was more subtle and the music and feel alone let you wet your pants. That's something I would like to see again. But it's probably too oldschool nowadays with x360 style of games. Shame!

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

Im very rarely in the mood to play on rails. relinquishing so much control is just unsatisfying and not scary at all. I was bored with chronicles. Its so frustrating. Just make a proper game. RE4 was so successful all things considered. Show the hardcore some respect.

The mood in this one looks a lot better, pace seems faster, more on screen, plus your partner there to seems to help out. Hopefully this'll be more enjoyable.

Well it only feels that way because two huge names of the gaming industry are going to release on-rail games on Wii. Then there's the on-rail games like ghost squad, House of the dead series, and House of the Dead overkill was just released last month. So yeah it feels like there are to many of them. Factor in Capcom's comment of "RE fans will be very happy soon" it's a setup of utter disappointment.

IMO I rather see capcom bring a new installment of Dead Aim. That game has the potential to be great on Wii. Have the story take place in a larger location and have puzzles done in the same fashion as Zack&Wiki. Doesn't that sound like more effort than a on-rails shooter?

And now that I think about it Wii on-rail titles don't feel as good as the light gun games in the arcade anyway, so why do people keep buying them? That's not rhetorical, I really wanna know why there are gamers still supporting these type of Wii games?SmilieSmilie

Just so you know I once supported these games (Only purchasing Ghost squad for nostalgic purposes) when the Wii wasn't loved by any Dev, But since Ninty's the popular kid in class again I want better games. And It's not that I think UC: DS looks bad I just want to actually control where my on screen character is moving.

I really wanna know why there are gamers still supporting these type of Wii games?

    Cause there fun?

Come on be serious for a sec and stop dropping one liners. What makes this a better purchase than any other On-Rails title for Wii? What new gameplay is this title going to give that the other on-rail titles can't offer?

lol are you actually suggesting that Capcom or EA say ok Sega you can have this market for your self this year we won\'t release our games.

Come on man you could say that to MANY games on the market how many generic 3rd person, first person, jrpgs are released every year that don\'t offer anything more substantial that other competition on the market?

Just because you don\'t like the genre or have become bored dosn\'t mean demand has to be suddenly dropped for them.
I\'m still dissapointed in the anoucment don\'t get me wrong I would love a RE4 styled game but still I liked umbrella chronicles (more than overkill actually) so i\'m not about to boycott somthing that i happen to enjoy.

That's practically irrelevant, I'm talking from the standing point of a gamer trying to enjoy a new game done in it's proper manner. Not to mention Sega is obviously focused in more than one genre when it comes to new games on Wii.

Yes you could say that for every game on every system, but the fact remains that if the next game doesn't offer much new it generally doesn't warrant a purchase over previous titles; and in the case of on-rail shooters the difference between one and another are slim to none.

Err..dunno about you but looks like it\'s completly diffrent to me you know with all those new levels and everything, gameplay wise yeah it looks similer but that has\'t stoped me buying other sequals to games that I\'ve enjoyed.

How is it irrelevent? you said

What makes this a better purchase than any other On-Rails title for Wii?

Well for a start it plays diffrently from Overkill.

I thought we where just talking about light gun games here, if your talking about Capcoms overall game output on wii then yeah I guess it is pretty lazy in comparison(thought i made that clear in previous posts).
Still dosn\'t change the fact that Darkside Chronicles will probably be a good game and at the very least isn\'t a port.

J Tangle - I'm pretty sure people are allowed to like whatever game they want to?
Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty sick of rail shooters, too. And I really wish we'd get a REAL RE game. But that doesn't mean people aren't allowed to like this game, or any game for that matter.
