Classic Controller PRO Coming to Japan on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Nintendo have recently revealed the new Classic Controller PRO, headed for release sometime Summer 2009 for Japanese Wii players.

Unfortunately though, the changes seem to be purely aesthetical. According to NeoGAF, the controller isn't wireless, and still doesn't include rumble. However it does look to be more comfortable to hold.

What do our readers think of this "new" model? Express your thoughts inside, meanwhile you can always check out Nintendo's Official Page on the new controller.

Shoulder buttons are better placed - looks better. Wish Nintendo would have made this wireless from the start, and included a Classic controller with every Wii.

It'd be better if Nintendo offered a replacement scheme...Or maybe the CC just hasn't been selling as much as expected, which is why this 'change' has been made.

It's cheap but a positive move. As I said in the Famicom Classic Controller thread the other day, I hate the Classic Controller. IMO it's the worst controller Nintendo have ever made. This change is proof they are unhappy also.

Wasn't around in the N64 days huh?

Well anyway, i guess i have to get myself 2 of these once they're released. My poor CC's are just going to gather dust on the shelf now...
People are going on about how they want this to be used with GC titles, but that's not going to happen.

Bowser. You Booz, you lose.

i liked the N64 controller. was a bit big and ugly but the duel control thing worked. and the Z trigger was genius

Everyone seems to bum the N64 pad despite how painful it was.

The Z Trigger was excellent though, gotta admit that.

This doesn't even have rumble though? The GC controller still pwns it in almost every way (the one way it doesn't being SNES games on VC)

I like the Classic Controller. I was pretty much forced to buy one after downloading Super Mario World. Still, I like this controller. It's nice and confy to use.

The button placement for Snes games on the Gamecube pad is stupid.

Fortunately they're assigned correctly in 2 of the RPGs I downloaded. In Secret of Mana and Mario RPG, the button commands shown on screen match the GC controller's buttons (ABYX etc) which is handy.

Playing Super Metroid with it wasn't ideal though.

How is the N64 controller painful?

Come on Nintendo, release wireless versions of the old pads. If I could play VC games with their original pads it might persuade me to download a couple.

Less posty, more gamey.

The control stick is utter torture on the hands, and the L button is almost completely pointless.

If it has a GC control stick I'd forgive it. Smilie

I am sure this "pro" version is just to get rid of those pesky lawsuits over the standard classic controller design.

This just looks like they glued some handles on and moved the shoulder buttons.
It's a waste of money if you have the original and you should really use a GC controller instead as they are much better. Untill the disign a wireless I won't even conteplate breathing on one. Its like they mashed a PS2 controller and a Xbox controller and made it all white. It just dosen't look aesthetically pleasing.

Should of just brought it out at the start.

The point of the "Pro" I'm sure is to remove the small amount of lag that is incurred through wireless. I hope they improved the d-pad, too. If you've ever played F-Zero on the real SNES, go try and play it with the classic controller and see what I mean. The d-pad really sucks.
