New sales totals for the five biggest sellers across the world in 2008 have been released and surprisingly GTA IV was not at the top of the pack, mainly due to its moderate performance in Japan. In fact, Rockstar's much-hyped game failed to even take the runners-up spot, with Mario Kart Wii leaping in at No.1 and Wii Fit close behind at No.2, both being strongly helped along the way by stellar performances in not only the UK and US markets, but in the Land of the Rising Sun as well.
Check out the break-down of sales for each territory below:
Total Sales (Breakdowns: US | Japan | UK)
1.) Mario Kart Wii - 8,940,000 (5,000,000 | 2,000,000 | 1,940,000)
2.) Wii Fit - 8,310,000 (4,550,000 | 2,150,000 | 1,610,000)
3.) Grand Theft Auto IV - 7,290,000 (5,180,000 | 256,000 | 1,850,000)
4.) Super Smash Bros Brawl - 6,320,000 (4,170,000 | 1,750,000 | 404,000)
5.) Call of Duty: World at War - 5,890,000 (4,460,000 | N/A | 1,430,000)
What do you make of this Top 5 list? Is it surprising to see Super Smash Bros. Brawl performing rather averagely in the UK compared to the other games?
