Capcom's Wii Exclusive, Spyborgs, Getting Major Overhaul

By Adam Riley 07.08.2008 11

Capcom has confirmed that since the initial unveiling of its exclusive Wii project 'Spyborgs', the game has gone back underground for some major re-working:

"You won't see new assets for several more months. We're refining it considerably (pretty much as significant an overhaul as Dark Void underwent from its first announcement to its first big reveal). I have seen a new build recently though… it's coming along nicely. That's all I'll say about that for now."
- Christian Svensson, Corporate Officer/VP of Strategic Planning & Business Development.

Do you feel this was a necessary step for the game that many believed looked to be a cross between Jak & Daxter and Ratchet & Clank?

well it did look really bad

The screens looked bad, but the trailer made it look much more impressive - quite amusing, in fact.

yeah it look ok but i hope they trying to make it good good too now can only be a good thing

The game looked fine in regards to art direction, and the graphics would've had a boost by the time of release anyway, it was just Capcom's timing of Spyborg's unveiling that attracted the criticism.Smilie

I thought it looked pretty good, so this is good news.

The problem is the cartoon feel will make it look like a movoe tie-in on the shelves. Good for sales but bad for hardcore gamers' potential interests.

The FMV in the trailer looked an awful lot like Team Fortress 2, which did make me pay serious attention to the game rather than jump on the wagon of hate. If they use that style as a bar to aim for, it may yet look like a typically stylish Capcom game.

We didn't see much of gameplay mechanics. I do not know what they are reworking, but I hope they do not change the quirky characters and the great childish humour (humor? homur?) and absurdity flashing up in the trailer.
They altogether may change graphics, making it better and more nerdy (say: Graphics-whore-approved).
It's great when they are able to take the game back and improve it. I hope they don't scale down the good assets.

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

Good to hear.
From what I saw it needed it.

It looked really good to me. I hope they change it for the better and not screw it up. I was looking forward to it.

Yeah and less purple. All the screens just look...they have this disgusting purple tinge.

But it's great to see them delay a game that they know needs to be worked on. Thank god some developers have common sense.
