I was just posting on forums just now and with the help of TheDuffman's topic suddenly this amazing new idea came to me:

This idea is kind of a fusion between the Dreamcast with its visual memory, GBA connectivity, and an idea for the future of Game Boy. Nintendo have been talking about how the Revolution will be different, and this how.

Instead of coming with controllers, the Revolution should come bundled with the new Game Boy - and instead of buying controllers you'd buy more Game Boys. Now I know you think this is stupid because its going to be incredably expensive - but what if the next Game Boy was made a budget console - and priced at less-than

I've been thinking that handheld consoles will replace the controllers for the Revolution for a long time now, but just can't see how the price could be acheived...

i personally can't see this happening as the amount of buttons on todays handhelds aren't enough for the average console game. i know touch screen adds a lot but to ds controls but another handheld would need at least 6 buttons, 8 would be nice.

IMO, a console pad really should have 8 buttons minimum. At least 2 of those should be analogue triggers like the XBox's. Also, dual analogue sticks are a necessity as well as a d-pad. How the hell would all that fit on a handheld!? Also, a handheld that retails for

My DS code for 42 classic games is 5026 2806 4140. Looking for people to play Rummy with. Feel free to PM your code. Also, anyone can add my Wii code if they like, PM me with yours too.

I don't think the controller/Game Boy price gap is feasible, but a device that allows the Game Boy to be a second controller (like there is now in games like 4 Swords) would be a good idea, if the Game Boys and controllers are basically the same design in terms of controls.

Instead of buying a controller, just use your Game Boy, and with the whole added memory, extra features and downloadable secrets thing, it might work.

If this happened though, they may loose out on a lot of money on the new GBA, unless everyone did buy 4 GBAs to use as controllers. But wouldn't most just use their mates free GBAs to play four player? Also if the GBA is so cheap, then the amount of third party support would probably be small, but the idea does sound cool. The GBA would have to be good to work as a controller soley though, none of this awkward connectivity malarky.

People seam to be confused as to what I'm describing.

Todays handhelds aren't designed from the ground up for use with consoles. This will have all the buttons needed; think creativly.

and with the help of TheDuffman's topic

this isn't helped by my idea, this is my idea Smilie Smilie
I'm juts reading through what you've said, and its great having some support. It would work better IMO if the DS could be a controller as well, at least for games early in the system's lifespan.

The direction shouldn't be just more people, ie. 8 control ports, it should be to enhance gaming Smilie (by control in this case)

Seeing as how the current GBA (not the SP) is selling new for $50 in the US, they wouldn't have that much ground to make up. Having the controller as the next gen GBA doesn't seem feasable, but you could incorporate the GBA screen we have now into a new controller without much difficulty or much cost as long as you don't include the ability to play GBA games.

If you take away the cartridge interface, the extra processor for GB/GBC the battery compartment, the speaker, and sound ability I bet we would be looking at about $30 per controller. I mean why would it have to play GBA games, everyone who wants a GBA will have one (or a ds) and with the analog stick and extra buttons it would be unwieldy to carry and possibly too fragile to carry everywhere.

One slight problem I do see is the fact that some people like to throw their controllers at the wall when they're frustrated while playing a game. Smilie It's been discussed on another topic on this site; anger management people!. Smilie

That completely defeats the point - the DS will be seperate, and the new Game Boy will be designed as a controller - and it will have unique forms of interaction just like the DS so there would be no advantage. Nintendo could put in whatever they like into this new system.

Then make them robust. Smilie

$50 is LESS than

why does it defeat the point? people will want to make home console games involving tounch screen. The DS is probably going to be the only console with a touch screen.

And there could be a DS SP type console which is more suited to play on home consoles.

There'll also be games that don't use any spectacular features, which'll work on the DS and the GBEvo.

Having the DS as another option enhances the possibilities of the revolution

and even if it wasn't the main controller, it would still be part of connectivity Smilie

edit:

unique forms of interaction just like the DS

the same unique forms of entertainment? wouldn't it be better if Nintendo could widen their range of controls further, rather than rehashing the DS? The GBEvo and DS should compliment eachother.

It's gonna have to be pretty big in order to accomodate a screen, 4 shoulder buttons, 4 face buttons pluas start and menu button, d-pad and dual analgoue sticks. IMO, It isn't feasable. I would rather have a proper pad.

It defeats the point because my whole idea behind this is to make connectivity affordable and mainstream. If you go using DS's its going to be too expensive, making it just like GC connectivity - which as great as it is, it dosn't sell, hence its rarely supported anymore - we'll never see another Four Swords type game until its all a lot cheaper, for instance. Theres no reason why this screen couldn't be touch-screen - I did talk about how it will include new methods of interaction - touch-screen could be one of them.

It'll be designed primarily as a control pad - but one that also happens to function as a Game Boy. It dosn't have to be a Game Boy for my idea to work, but I thought it would be proffitable for Nintendo to use it as a budget machene AS WELL, and it'll be a good idea to be able to download games to it. It won't be as portable as the DS, it won't be as powerful as the DS - but for
