Which series do you reckon is the most consistant in the quality between the 3D incarnations and 2D incrnations?
I reckon the Metroid Series... I mean Fusion is almost as good as prime, and even though their gameplay are very differemt, they still are one of the best.

Zelda. Oot was good example. The put everything good about Lttp and made it 3D. Absoulte brilliant. Mario 64 is another great example. Still had the charm of a mario game. Metroid Prime is aslo another great Example. Retro Studios have been working hard. Prince Of Persia made a great incarnation. All these game were both good 2D and 3D.

Yea Mario and Pop were consistent. However even though I totalty adore Oot, WW and MM, lttp was a bore fest for me (except hyrule castle).

So far the only games to make a FAITHFUL and consistently entertaining transfer from 2d to 3d have been.

Metroid, play super Metroid the Metroid Prime and see how faithfully the 3d game replicates the feel of the 2d one.

Zelda, Ocarina of time still one of the greatest games ever, need I say much more.

Mario, although we havent seen much though. The classic platformer sections in Sunshine made me feel a lot better about this trasition.

Prince of Persia has yet to prove consistent. And to be honest I dont feel any elements from the 2D game in the 3D game, and really thats what its all about.

Bad transitions.

Sonic.
Kirby.

Yes i agree with Sonic and Kirby as bad transitions

Sonic in 3D didn't have the 2D feel, and going really fast in 3D just didn't suit me. Sonic 3 on GBA is quiet good, still has the charm of a sonic game.

Kirby was just a disappointment. Kirby's air ride was like a babies game and just didn't feel like a kirby game. It was pretty boring and the lastability was very short. What kind of games uses pretty much only 1 button?

Hey redking, you seem to know a lot about Super Metroid...is it better than Fusion? Because Fusion is a damn good game.

Super Metroid i think is better because it for me was the first Metroid game i played and was a very good game in terms of gameplay and challenge.

Sonic.

Sonic was a horrible transition. I would much rather be playing sonic on my megadrive than on my gamecube or dreamcast...

Sonic Heroes is the worst so far- every new game seems to take more and more control away from the player. I completed the demo level of sonic heroes by holding forward and tapping a few buttons. How shit is that?

That is by far the best quote of the year. I agree strongly. Smilie
Sonic? 3D? No thanks. I think I'm probably the very few who'd rather be playing the MD versions then the GC/DC adventure series as msenyszak said. There was something missing, a good transistion to most but I didn't feel it had the same balance and notably pace that the originals had.

Zelda. Excellent in both formats as Nintendo and now Capcom have shown. Handing over the development to another high profile studio like Capcom has really expanded the series and having 2D/3D iterations working together is a dream for followers of the franchise. Top stuff. Smilie

I really like the 3D sonic games - Sonic Heroes wasn't up to the standard of the great Sonic Adventure series I will admit - but it really works well in 3D.

hmmm i prefer 2d actually thats y i buy the Sonic advance series rather than the current 3d ones. Although even there not as good as the Mega drive ones.
I think FF made the move into 3d very well, i dont think Donkey Kong games have made the transition very well.
