Will Nintendo make a new 3DS model?

When the 3DS was first released, a lot of people assumed a model full of upgrades would be released in the future and held off for that reason. Two years later.. and we've seen the XL, but there's no sign of a real upgraded system coming. The XL has bigger screens with a stretched resolution, but that's virtually it, it's marketed as an alternative rather than an upgrade.

Now that the 3DS has been out for a while, does C3 still think it'll get a full upgrade in a new model like the GBA and DS got? It already has the aesthetic down like the DSL offered, but is there anything else that in your eyes would make a new model worth developing and buying? Would a stronger battery life justify a new model or would it need a plethora of new stuff like the DSi had?

Hmm - I don't think they'd change functionality for a new 3DS, but definitely can imagine a third and final 3DS revision before they inevitably release another new handheld. Am worried where Nintendo can really go with this, as mobile/tablets really are coming into their own so a new Nintendo portable will really have to step up its game to compete. 

I have been seriously thinking about getting a 3DS XL recently, I just feel likes theres plenty of games i'd enjoy on it now not to mention upcoming Animal Crossing and Pokemon etc. I would be gutted if they announce a new model if I were to get one but I doubt they will soon.

I feel like best upgrade would be XL body with better resolution screen, second circle pad and bigger battery. That would be a great handheld.

I've been seeing "as new" XLs on eBay with 1-2 games for around £100 which seems crazy value to me!

Hope they don't bring another one out cause I just got the XL xD

I'd be all over a new model with a larger screen and second analogue - especially as I'm currently considering getting an XL due to my launch model cutting out and resetting the clock all the time.

I'd like a DSi like upgrade in a few years. Larger Screen but still slim and small with a second circle pad if possible.

I would say better quality cameras but I know that aint happening.

The XL is too big for me so that's a no no.

My luck they´ll announce a new 3DS the day after I finally give in and buy the XL.

Despite having just recently bought a 3DS, I really do think the system needs a remodel.

- Improved 3D screen
- Thinner design
- Second analogue (bit of a stretch here knowing Nintendo)
- Better battery; you can hardly call the system mobile right now

Maybe it would be digging a hole for themselves but a new model with a better battery life would be excellent. The poor system as it is cannot hold for a very long time.

I wouldn't like a new model, simply because I was holding out for so long on getting one and finally bit the bullet a few months back.

I can see Nintendo doing it though, but not sure what they'd do with it to be fair other than what has already been mentioned. Knowing Nintendo they'd probably scale it back instead, e.g. Remove functions rather than add them!

Making the 3DS much thinner would make it hardly even possible to stick the cartridge in people :p. Plus, I think its already quite tiny as is.

Only things I would like added is a second circle pad, better battery life, and being able to click the 3D into place in the off-setting like on the 3DSXL. I quite like that idea as I turn it off without it being properly off a lot, and it always turns in by accident when I take it out of my pocket/carry case.
