This is already being discussed in the official Wii U thread. There should be a news story later, it's being covered everywhere else:

It cannot be, it's undeniably shit for a number of reasons. The directors of PSN & Xbox Live must be overjoyed by this revelation, launch day sales in Europe will certainly go their way.

For those prices I'm glad its being hidden from view tbh.
This only affects Europe. Not trying to downplay you guys or defend Nintendo (this is an extremely dumb decision in any case) but it's just Nintendo of Europe, not Nintendo as a whole.
That said, the system has parental controls for a reason. There's no need to give people the option and then make it mandatory anyway.
sounds good to me. school is shit anyway, so if it means having children miss the first hours of school to be able to play boobywank in orgyland 3, I'm all for it.
This is utterly ridiculous. It's stuff like this that makes me think Nintendo will always be behind the curve in a lot of ways. Two steps forward one backward. Their slow pace toward modernization is exasperating.
Honestly can't see the point in this and it needs to get sorted out quickly. I get the parental standpoint, I can understand the watershed system, but the fact that it disregards any of your settings (even if you're 18+) is still poor. It's a download, and most people that work normal hours etc often aren't up at those hours which makes it aggravating as hell.
I may have laughed a little. Nintendo is good for that sometimes. <3
on the other hand, what's wrong with no mature games on nintendo? they have been doing fine without them for 30 years now.
its not like the people complaining the most about this(virtual life types) will buy less nintendo now. Also: if you're the type for Gore&Nipples, would you really go out and buy a Nintendo? A Wii even? nah...

Blame the Germans. Bloody ridiculous. Can't see why it has to apply to all of Europe though.

Is that the screen it comes up with? It doesn't even tell you what times you are allowed to view it. Can't believe this has to be put in place for the rest of Europe.
i dont thi nk its a big deal to nintendo or they would have set up shop somewhere else in urope long ago. German regulations must have been known to them prior to this. And there are enough alternatives looking a germanys surrounding countries.
Yeah that's the screen. Tried it myself. You can see the game in the store but can't open it up meaning you can't even see the description or anything.
So basically because of German censorship laws the whole of Europe has to suffer - apparently it's not even Nintendo's fault, it's because NoE HQ is based in Germany.
Either way it's ridiculous, can't they make the system different for other countries? I mean it's early days for the eShop yet but surely that kind of thing can be implemented? Nintendo are probably very aware that people aren't exactly ok with this.
Surely the law can't be imposed elsewhere despite them being based in Germany? Each countries laws should dictate how the store runs in any given place no matter where the server is.
According to that link i posted above, Germany actually get a 6 hour window to buy mature games (10pm to 4am) whereas the rest of Europe only get 4 hours (11pm to 3am). No idea how that is possible.
This is silly anyway as there's nothing stopping a minor turning on the WiiU at these hours and seeing these games anyway so the whole thing is just OTT.
So we can blame the Germans? Awesome.
just googled sony headquarters germany....im confused now
