Mario Kart/Brawl Wii Online Tournament Sign-ups

Hi all,

Now that the Cubed3 chat rooms are back again, this seems like a great time to try and get a tournament going this weekend. A few of us have already tried out playing Smash Bros Brawl and Mario Kart Wii online, to success.

Not everyone is going to be available at the same time, but I just want to see if there's first of all any interest in doing this, and what times people would mostly want to do it.

If we could use this thread as a sign-up for now to get an idea how many would be interested, and for which games you'd want to play in, we'll see if we can go ahead with it.

In Mario Kart Wii you can have 12-player races, so a high number of players can work out well for that one. In Brawl, it's 4 per match, so we could maybe do a knockout style there. Depends how many we get. Prizes for winning will probably be stars.

Ideas for the types of tournament we can do and any other suggestions welcome. But for now, just want to see who would be interested - put your name down below - and what times would be good. Preferably, we want to do it today or tomorrow. Remember to post yout wifi codes for each game and what times you'd be available.

Mario Kart Wii -Any time before 8pm.

Before 8pm for Marzy, so anyone else available to play today/tomorrow before 8pm?

I'm up for Brawl. I'm here pretty much all day, so times don't really matter.

I'm up for both Mario Kart and Brawl. Tommorow and the whole of next week I have off work so I'm good any times in those days

brawl matches? might want to check smash boards for a good rule set. having 4 players per match would encourage running and stalling. A 2v2 tourny where the final round would have 1v1 sounds better.

Sadly haven't got the desired numbers for the big tourney I was hoping for. Maybe when Mario Kart 7 comes out we can do that. Some encouragement to get guests/newbies involved in the tournies would be good.

Might have to make an advanced post just prior to MK7 coming out to get a tourney for that organised.

I should be able to get it. Though I don't have a 3DS yet. It's probably gonna be on my bro's.

That's okay. I think what we can do for one tournament with MK7 is pick everyone's names out of a hat and match them off as 1v1 races, with winners moving to the next round. That way, each pairing can discuss when the best time is for both of them to play their match. Instead of needing everyone to be there at the same time, which is more difficult. Although if we can attempt to do a tournament like that, that would still be great.

We could maybe even have a League format, where we all have to play each other twice (like home/away matches). For each of your home races, you get to choose the track, so it's always fair. Then once everyone's completed all their matches, the league ends and your total points determine the positions, with stars rewarded based on that.

Just an idea that came into my head now. Wonder if it'll work.

I guess we'll see how many we've got by tomorrow, otherwise maybe set a specific time/date for next week.

Will definitely be up for a MK3DS tourney, have neither of the Wii games though.

Regarding the Mario Kart Wii tourney, I'll see if we can get a time down for later today, between 6 and 8pm. Otherwise it'll be in the week. Would be nice to try and get a bunch of us involved in one before everyone's busy with Skyward Sword and then Mario Kart 7.

We should be able to do a number of different MK7 tournaments, like the knockout type, league, and all of us in one grand prix. I'll bring it up in the MK7 thread to see what people think.

I see you added my name to the Mario Kart Wii one, good man. I'm available to play any time today and any time after 5 on Mon-Wed. Thurs-Sun I'll be available all day unless I state otherwise.

Okay, so as far as I'm aware, all of us are available before 8pm today. I just don't know about Kafei (he said during the week, so not sure about today). So if he could reply, or I'll pm him, I'll see if we can get that tournament for the 5 of us signed up down for before 8pm tonight!

It's only 5 of us, but looks like about all we'll get! What does everyone say to doing a grand prix, so 4 races, and then the order determines how many stars we get? Or do people want to do more races to determine the outcome?

In Smash Bros, we could choose how many matches to play between us, and the rules for the tournament.

Then we can just play for fun after it all XD

Sorry Az, I got your PM just now. I wasn't available till now, and I have guests at home right now, which make it difficult to play MKWii right now. Won't be available this week in the evening before Thursday (all my evenings till then are booked)

No problem mate, we didn't have everyone ready anyway.

SirLink is getting the game now and says it should come Wednesday, so we might be able to get a tournament of 6 of us for when you're able to play

btw, as soon as SirLink's game arrives, I'll see about trying to get everybody together for a specific day and time. So anywhere from Thursday to Sunday between 6pm-8pm sounds like the right estimate.

Kafei says between 6 and 8pm is good for him. Is everyone okay with that? I'm not 100% sure if I'm free tomorrow night yet, so I'm thinking maybe Saturday/Sunday. But see what you all think.
