Did anyone try Dolphin (Wii emulator: HD graphics!)?

Some guys on another forum started using the Wii emulator Dolphin a few weeks ago. Originally it's because they're American but they want to play Xenoblade.

But now they're loving it. Basically it lets you play your Wii games in HD. You still use your Wiimote (with a bluetooth USB adapter) and sometimes your PC can even read your Wii discs. If not, you'll have to download an ISO (I don't plan on using this to pirate, just to play my games in HD).

So now I'm also looking into using it, especially for when Zelda SS comes out.
Do you have any experience with it?

I can't use is because my PC doesn't read GC or Wii discs, there's a list of Disc Drives on the website that can't be used, and I have tried to do it by putting Wind Waker in. I don't want to pirate the games, so I gave up.

But yeah, the dolphin emulator's fantastic, with some games like Wind Waker, you can even add HD versions of the Textures, makes a beautiful game even better to look at, and makes you wonder what they could do with the Wii U.

Plus, I thought we had a Dolphin thread already, but I checked and it wasn't there, oh well.

Well, I did try out Dolphin a while ago but only with a Gamecube game and that one (with a fairly high resolution) already caused my laptop to go nuts, so I doubt that I'll be able to run any Wii game at a decent resolution, let alone in HD. Smilie

I tried it but didn't have the right disc drive in my laptop, saw no point so uninstalled.

I've tried to use Dolphin before (installed fine and everything) but like many here, my computer isn't exactly made to handle HD... or anything that requires processing power for that matter. Smilie

I guess I didn't realize you could use a normal disc drive to read GC or Wii discs. I thought both formats had some weird Nintendo-blackmagic-bar-code-thing that only allowed for their respective systems to read them.

I have a nice HD tv and most computers allow for HDMI hookup now. I'm going have to look into this... This topic really makes me want to save up and (try) to build a computer again. (Skyward Sword on a High end PC would be amazing!)

Sadly none of the PCs we have at home is decent enough to emulate anything above N64/PS1 and Dreamcast to some extent.

Hm I have an Intel Quad Core @ 2.4 GHz with 4GB ram. GeForce 8600.

Does anyone know if I will be able to run it? I can't test it yet, can't download the files atm.

You'll be able to run it, just that some games will have to be about 720p level at most, it's quite demanding on the Graphics card front from what I hear.

I tried installing 2 versions but it doesn't work.
The latest one for Windows 32bit has a corrupt zip file.
3.0 won't boot because VCOMP100.DLL can't be found.

And because of this firewall thing I can't go to the forums to see how to fix it, or try another version. (I downloaded the files at work.)

Guess I'll try again on Wednesday. Unless somebody knows what's wrong.

Is 'VCOMP100.DLL' a bios file? Just thinking out load. If so, Google it.

bios files are usually *.bin files, not dlls. (dlls have a better chance of being plugin components, and often when a plugin that's part of the the emulator (could be audio, video, controller...) can't find a dll it needs, it throws an error.

Or it could be a system dll that needs to be present somewhere where all installed programs will be able to find it and not the plugin or emulator folder. It would be nice to know where the emulator is looking for the dll.

Ok I fixed it.

Some of the games are stuttering a lot... Zelda: Twilight Princess was pretty hard to play like that. And I wasn't even going for a crazy resolution.

I'll have to see if it's something I can fix or if my PC just isn't good enough.

I've actually got it working on my pc, works great, but I download the iso files. xenoblade looks fantastic in hd. I can post some shots of it sometime.

What!? Really? I once tried to get it working on mine, but wasn't having any of it. Tried it with Four Swords Adventures. I bet you have a really good PC though.

Dolphin runs perfectly on my brother's computer. Twilight Princess looks gorgeous in HD. It's hard to tell in blurry 480p but Nintendo really did a great job when it came to crafting TP's world. If only the Wii could output in 1080p, don't need 360 graphics as the Wii is capable of some beautiful games. We just needed to option to SEE them as they were intended to be seen. Smilie

It's a real shame too, because I remember back when the Wii was announced they said it would be able to hook up to PC monitors. But they never went with it in the end. Very unfortunate.

I just got a new iMac - 3.4GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 with 8GB ram. The thought never occurred to me but I assume I should be able to run this emulator? Can people do that with Macs?

Time to do some research. Before Skyward Sword.

Dunno about macs, think its more optimized on pc.
But those specs sound fine if it was on pc.

Btw you guy know you can use a wii to rip games to a external hard drive right?
You dont need to have a special disk drive in your computer.

I haven't really seen much of this so I searched it on youtube. WOW. The games look absolutely stunning!

Here is what Skyward Sword looks like running on Dolphin:

^ Holy shit.

This just makes it even worse that the bloody Wii U won't even upscale. Sickening decision from Nintendo. Well done.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 looks great in HD too:

^ Is that really from Dolphin? I could have sworn I'd seen that pic before is an idea of what they could achieve given the power, but if that really is from Dolphin, that's just gorgeous. You're killing me with these pics guys.

Yep, this is a direct screen shot from the Dolphin emulator. Also I know what pic you're talking about, it's definitely not this one.

God, that's just incredible then.

On the plus side of things, this is what Wii U versions of Zelda and Mario will be looking like... at the LEAST.
