Hi all,

I've been thinking - seeing as the Wii is pretty much coming to an end soon. There must be a number of hidden gems that not many people have played.

I'll split this into two bits. The first where I'll suggest games that are underated and haven't sold well when they deserve far far better than games like DKCR. The Second where I have some questions on games that have picked my interest.

-------------------------
Part 1 - My list of Underated games. You can find many of these games for under £17:
1. Sin and Punishment 2 - Successor to the Sky. - utterly amazing. I want a Sin and Punishment 3 Nintendo!!

2. Red Steel 2 - Should have sold by the bucket loads. Perhaps the brand name did it no favours as the initial Red Steel left many disappointing.

3.Okami - Why Why Why hasn't this game sold millions and millions of copies?

4. Silent Hill: Shattered memories. A creative imagining of Silent hill. I loved every second of it.

5.Fragile: Yes - the combat is weak, but its more about having a unique experience, rather than a game.

6. Sky Crawlers - If this had Ace Combat WW2 slapped on the front, it would have sold loads more. In my opinion - this is more fun, more tight than Ace combat on the HD consoles. If it had online - it would have been the bee's knees! Nevertheless - This is how all flight games on consoles should be played as.

7. Madword - Utterly fantastic. Great comic book style, great violence, great commentary, fun gameplay... fun game!
--------------------------
PART 2: Games that I have interest in:

1) Little Kings Story - It's been on my radar. However, I'm not sure if I'll enjoy it as I didn't like pikmin that much.

2)New Super Mario bros - I'm not convinced as it seems a bit generic and might be a game that will be easily forgotten?

3) Super Mario Galaxy 2 - I thought the first one was average. However I'm keen as everyone seems to be praising this game to the skies

Wishlist: Last Story, Pandora's tower, Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3

All games in your part 2 you should get. After I beat Ocarina on the 3ds, I'm gonna give Okami a try.

Some more underrated Wii games I own:

Muramasa: The Demon Blade: An excellent 2D hack n' slash sidescroller with beautiful visuals and soundtracks and tons of different swords and secrets to unlock. If you are into Japanese stuff, you're obliged to pick this up if you haven't yet.

Little King's Story: A game that mixes so many elements from so many genres and manages to create something completely different. It's similar to Pikmin in a way but there's just so much more to it. You can spend countless hours exploring the vast kingdoms, getting treasure and collectibles, expanding your own kingdom with dozens of new buildings and so on. It also has very "unique" music, which are remixes of classic pieces that fit the game perfectly. If it wasn't for Okami, this would be my favorite Wii game.

@Sherwiinator:

1) Little King's Story: see above Smilie If you want an idea of what the music is like, check my post in the music thread.

2) You're right, it is generic but only as generic as Mario games can go. If you've enjoyed any of the past 2D Mario sidescrollers you should enjoy this as well. Brilliant level design, some awesome music, cool new power-ups and spot-on controls as usual.

3) If you thought that the first one was average...well then I don't think anyone can help you. You might like it more because it made a lot of things better than the original. Slightly better controls/camera, much more variety in levels since there are more galaxies with only a few stars this time around and the level design is just generally insane. It's also more challenging than the original, even in the levels before beating Bowser.

Madworld: Seriously, you can get this game for a fiver now, and it's really fun to play. Yes it's a little repetitive in places but it's also weird, funny and satisfying in others, plus the hard mode is actually hard. The soundtrack isn't bad either (if you like Hip-Hop). Another thing is besides it running in 50Hz only in the EU version, it doesn't notice at all because the art is that stylised, the only colours in the game are red, yellow and blue(later in the game)(black and white don't count).

Red Steel: This was actually a very good launch game, and despite what many people say, it's a good game, the graphics are decent (uses Unreal Engine 2), the controls: although not 1 on 1 with the sword battles they work well. And shooting and turning isn't bad at all. The only thing this is lacking is online multiplayer, of which the offline multiplayer is fun, and you can run around shooting others in dinosaur suits. It's 'sequel' didn't o quite so well in sales but it's just as good(better in sword combat due to 1:1 sword controls).

What many people seem to think underrated means:
Niche games that didn't sell very many copies.

What it actually means:
Games that are not given the praise they deserve.

You would struggle to find a negative view of many of the games listed above.

This is as annoying as when people say "I could care less" instead of "I couldn't care less" because they've not actually considered the words that they're saying.

"Underappreciated" is a better word for this thread.

I'll get my coat.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

@Raff - Fixed the heading for the thread Smilie

@Stulaw - I definitely agree about Madworld. I loved the game and loved the in game commentary even more - for e.g. 'I think he won the arm's race'SmilieSmilie

@SirLink - I checked out some OST (youtube) for LKS and I loved it. I'll watch some gameplay videos too. It look's like one of those hidden gems. How would you compare LKS to Pikmin? Do you have a preference between the two?

Hidden gem is definitely the best description for that game. I have to say that I haven't played Pikmin 1 or 2 yet. I just recently bought both but those have to wait till I'm completely done with all I want to do in Ocarina of Time 3D. If you're not in a rush, I can tell you my impressions in around two weeks. There probably are some other C3 members who have played both, so you might want to ask those (too).

LKS is a bit different to Pikmin but both great games. I had a blast with LKS. Certainly one to pick up if you can find it cheap.

It was only a couple of months ago that I found out that people said 'I could care less' as a phrase. It blew my mind.

Disaster Day of Crisis and Tomb Raider: Anniversary. Can't think of any more at the moment.
