FUCK YEAH! Had a feeling they'd mention something about a new Smash.
Heh, at least I got this prediction right. Just a shame we got no other info on it. Not even mention of online.
So I'm guessing the Wii U is a new controller and it will be used for the Nintendo Wii. It will be compatible with all of the Wii's hardware that already exists.
So can I safely confirm that Smash 4 will be compatible with Nintendo Gamecube controllers? I am not going to play Smash game anyway else.
If no GC controllers, a huge hit in the Smash community will be taken.

Not sure on the GC controllers, but the Wii U is a completely new console.
No ports for GC controllers, but Classic Controllers will work.
But yeah, it's only now that you mention it I realise I don't wanna use anything but a GC controller to play Smash either.
I wonder if fan outcry will force Nintendo to enable GC controllers to be used somehow.

It seems almost impossible to enable GC controllers. Hopefully they make a new style classic controller that resembles something playable in a fighting game.
Couldn't they do a usb-GC controller adapter?
Azuardo said:Heh, funny how I suggested the exact same thing here. Would be cool if they did that but tbh, I'm satisfied with my CC Pro. They just can't support a decade old hardware forever, especially with good alternatives like the CC Pro.

Yep, I saw your suggestion too. It could well work. But in all honesty I can see it not happening. Would be a shame if we can't play GC games on the system. If they start to do a GC Virtual Console, they're gonna be over priced. It's just after nearly a decade of playing Smash with a GC controller, it will be a bit of a pain. But for sure, I could still probably get used to using the CCPro.
Having rare Gamecube games on the Wii U VC would be freakin' awesome actually because even when overpriced, they'd still be much cheaper than those remaining rare copies out there. Imagine things like Paper Mario: TTYD on there. *dreams*

That's completely true. And that's when the VC becomes awesome. Gives people the chance to experience gems that they couldn't before. And gives new generations of players the chance to experience the past.
I'm sure that the U controller would actually be quite comfortable to play this on, I mean, even though it doesn't have the same triggers as the GC controller, and it's really wide compared to it as well. I think the analogue slider would be great for moving characters about, although I don't know how much battering it can take (one of my GC controller's analogue stick can't sense up and down as well as it used to) and I'm not sure how much force would be needed for the character to run.
But then, I've got a CC pro, although I'd rather have the left analogue stick in the same position as the GC's in that case.
What are the views on using a circle pad versus an analogue stick? Instead of using analogue, they've gone with circle pads - there must be a good reason for that? Can 3DS users confirm it's better than a control stick? Will the U's circle pads be much more accurate than the 3DS's circle pads, and other console analogue sticks?
Or is there really no difference?
I think the circle pads feel nice to move around, and I've just had a little play around as to how I play smash bros. and I think it'll actually be better in some ways since there's less travel between the edges, although I'm not sure how much it can take, but loads of people play Street Fighter with it. That, and the Wii U's look more chunky, which is better.
Analogue Stick >>> Circle Pad.
Stronger, wider movement range so can be precise, will last longer, circle pad feels very spring loaded and not as hardy. It also doesn't follow the curve of your thumb as well (movement wise) as much as an analogue stick does. They are good, but I prefer an analogue stick, though I guess I'll need more games with the circle pad as I tend to play with the D-Pad on my 3DS as the majority of games are fighters.
I would also prefer smash bros on the WiiU with a second analogue stick as I do smash attacks with the C stick usually, and only use the regular one for charge, though I guess it wouldn't take too long to get used to.
I'm also guessing they have gone with circle pads to keep the form factor slim for, say, two player tablet based games. I like the circle pads, but regular analogue sticks are much more precise, circle pad feels far too twitch for my opinion due to the strength of the spring.
We won't see smash bros for another two years I guess at least. Unless Sakurai sells his soul and can come up with the game in a little over a year! Look at the development time for brawl!

Hmm well it's still in prototype stage, so maybe feedback could convince them to use analogue? But I guess if there's only a little bit of difference, they might not even bother.
For sure, we won't get Smash 4 for a good while. It will be great to see a tiny bit of footage hopefully next year though. At least it's being made.
Super Smash Bros... 3D?!?!?! Yes please
