I would be shocked if this came out in 2011. We haven't even seen a trailer yet. But then again, Nintendo seems full of surprises lately.

"Do a Barrel Roll!"

I hope he can make the deadline, I think a 3DS Mario game is needed to fend off NGP sales at the tail end of the year.

He didn't say that when "asked about Super Mario 3D", he said that when shown a series of objects, one of which was a Mario figurine.

So it could be another Mario altogether. Paper Mario 3D, or Mario Kart 3D, who knows... those two should be further into development than Mario 3D I think, since we saw them in movement already.

Well, if anything, Mario 3DS will be playable at E3 and Nintendo will make a big thing about it.

But I do think Paper Mario will come out this year.

I'm confident Intelligent Systems will have something to show on Paper Mario 3DS, the game already looks pretty polished.

Miyamoto is heavily involved in the Super Mario 3DS game though, so it's very likely that he was speaking about that. Paper Mario 3D is developed by Intelligent Systems so I doubt that he'll do a lot of work there. Mario Kart is very likely for a Christmas 2011 release but I don't think that he would refer to it as Mario without adding Kart to it.

Oh well, guess we have to wait for final confirmation after all. Smilie That French website promised more information from that interview in the coming days, so maybe there'll be some clarification.

Either way, we'll see more about Super Mario 3D at E3 ^^, Iwata said so at GDC11.

EDIT : Wasn't Cubed3 invited to the event where Miyamoto was in Paris by the way ?

It seems like Miyamoto just confirmed it. Speaking to Edge in London, he told them that it's a combination of Mario Galaxy and Mario 64, specifically pointing out that you have to play it in order to really understand what he means by that. After mentioning another example for the use of 3D in a Mario game, he went on to state that the game is completely original and coming this year.

Last but not least, not that anybody had any doubts, he said that the tail in the logo is what we think it is. Smilie Great news, indeed!

Good luck to him. I need more games to play Mr. Miyamoto.

SINCE 06

There is NOTHING more exciting than the prospect of a brand new Mario game on the horizon...everyone remembers the first time they played SM64, when they started Galaxy, and Galaxy 2...this is good news, my friends!

I hope he means MarioGalaxy in terms of moves, physics and engine and Mario64 in terms of "explorable hub"
