A good source has informed me that the American games magazine Gameinformer has rated the newest addition to the Mario Party series at an abysmal 2 out of 10 Smilie . Now this is just one magazines opinion. But perhaps the Mario Party series is finally dead? Your thoughts...

EDIT: Spelt abysmal wrong + I will now reveal my source as none other than Mr.Baseballfan

What's a good source to you then?

Jeez...

IGN rated it in the 7's and they're like the harshest website for Nintendo game reviews you'll find (bar Microsoft and Sony official websites) I've heard some good things about this game, not great but good, and it sounds better than Mario Party 4 and it certainly sounds like a good purchase.

Infact, I've just ordered it today and I'm looking forward to getting it.

I would say I'm looking forward to a review of this on Cubed3, aswell as the review of 1080 Avalanche I've heard is coming soon, but my trust in the reviews here has been some what tarnished by the Mario Kart: Double Dash IGN rip off review Smilie

What's a good source to you then?

I was just saying the source I found out about the mag from was reliable, not the mag itself. I just added that in, the main reason for the topic is for views about the game ok Smilie

Lol, sorry. Maybe I was a little harsh.

It's just I'll just be really pissed if this game is as bad as that magazine says, seeing as I hope to have it in my 'Cube on Monday. However, I'm fairly confident that the magazine in question is also the magazine that gave Universal Studies 9.8/10.

Smilie Surely not. Anywho i'm sure it won't be that bad, I won't be picking it up on the basis that I have one of the older ones, and can't really be naffed. More of the same I expect, but that does mean it will be at least average, certainly not 2 out of 10 Smilie

Since the first game was released 1999 Nintendo have been "doing an EA" with the Mario Party series - and we're now on the 5th version in the space of 4 years!

Mario Party 4, the first gamecube version - and the first version that I ever played - was at the very least, extremely good fun with 3 friends. A total demonstration of what makes nintendo great. Now I'm not saying they should release a new one every few months - but it is clearly a great series, really brings a smile to your face. The GameCube has some really great multiplayer games, and IMO at the center of it is the mario party series.

I don't think your expected to buy every copy - maybe if you buy every-other version then you'll get more out of it. For instance, if you own MP4 then theres little point in getting MP5 - but if you haven't got MP4 and maybe you own and love, say, MP3 on N64 - then MP5 is deffinatly worth it. Of course, if you haven't got a Mario Party game before - then what are you waiting for - go get! Smilie

Personally I think that GameInformer was a little too harsh on the Mario Party series even though it was kinda repetetive...Because I don't think that very many improvements have been made throughout the series except for new mini-games and stages, but I think they should've at least given it a 6.5 out of 10

I have a copy of GameInformer too. Possibly the worst Mag I have ever had. I own Mario Party 4 but I am also going to purchase Mario Party 5.

does anybody know whats improved from MP4?

Well I don't own MP4, but I've read that all 60 mini-games are new, and that there could be a new playable character... Smilie

Is it me, or is it hot here?

There are 3 new characters.

I heard the mini-games and boards are alot better than from MP4 aswell.

And, of course there's graphic improvements.

Anyone got it yet?

Absolutely Viewtiful!

All I know is the worst MP was 3, and 5 is definatly not one of the worst.

Mario Party wil never die, and I won't let it!
I'll make sure of that...

At the end of the day the question has to be asked is how much better and different is it to MP4?

Considering that MP4 can be picked up on Players Choice for

I only ever played Mario Party 1 & 4. From what I heard, Mario Party 3 was the best and Mario Party 4 was the worst. Mario Party 5 is in my house now, but it's not for me to play until Christmas. In the mean time I'm having such a fantastic time with XIII... check out the topic about it guys - this game deserves EVERYONES attention!

I liked Mario Party 2 but it eventually grates on you as its niggles become apparent. I haven't played a Mario Party game since.

Funny you should say that, I consider games like Mario Party and Mario Kart DD the perfect examples of what makes nintendo great - when all the amazing characters and themes all get rolled into one, genius.

Dont forget the Smash bros series

You can say that again.

All the Nintendo goodness rolled up into one. Smilie

80% say NGC! Much better than Mario Party 4, one of the best Mario Party games aparently and I can't wait to play this little beauty on Christmas Day. Why am I getting so excited over an 80% game you ask? Because NGC are very tough with their ratings, and the fact that I actually liked the 4th game means that I'm probably going to be playing 5 for long into the New Year! Anyone played it yet? Any chance of a Cubed3 review sometime soon?

As a subscriber to Game Informer, I agree with most of their opinions. However, this was one they BIG TIME got wrong. They have never liked the Mario Party series. Their favorite was Mario Party 4, which they gave a 4. Game Informer in my opinion the greatest gaming magazine there is, but they REALLY make me upset with their reviews on Mario Party games.
