E309 | Metroid: Other M Revealed For Wii

This was by far my favourite announcement. Perhaps the only announcement I was really excited for. First day purchase.

Perhaps this is the way forward for nintendo IPs. Choose selectively good developers and let them come up with something new for existing properties. Would love temco to do a space shooter using star fox. Open world with a hub system.

The definite 'Holy crap!' moment of the conference.

It looks really good, looks like there'll be Zero Suit parts aswell as Power Suit.

2.5D, Third Person 3D, and First person parts. All lookingpretty nice .

...Still struggling to find words to express amazement from GS announcement...*warning* brain overheating from compounding amazement *warning*...

I'll miss the lonely scanning days though. Such a good vibe they had.

But, to be honest, this looks really, really good. I want this when it's ready. Don't rush it. I want perfection. Nintendo style.

I\'ll reserve judgement.
Retro did a perfect job in Corruption, so I\'m not sure I\'m that keen on a new style.

It raises the interesting question of what Retro is upto though.

Amazing!!! TPS + FPS + beautiful platforming! Has anyone ever done it? Plus it means that Retro are not developing Metroid, which is awesome!

Cool. It looks like the characters will make up more of the story, including Samus. And it looks a lot faster, which is good for me. I wanted to like the old Metroid Prime games, but the gameplay would often bore me.

In some ways, it looks more like a "normal" good FPS (with a good story), but in other ways it's not at all.

Im confused what it is and how the different perspectives blend together. Retro did an amazing job blending the different mechanics together so that when you went in and out of morph ball it felt fluid. Hopefully samus's suite will have more detail added becuase she looks like a collection of shiny volume

oh yeah, definetly been taken in a new direction all right.
But is that a good thing?
I like metroid for its exploration and puzzle elements (which is why I hated MP hunters.)
This looks like some side scrolling shooter, kinda like contra/probotector. If they are going to do that whats the point of making it a metroid game?

Hopefully the platforming will be good as I always thought that the prime games lost a lot of that.

All that I saw was Ninja Gaiden written all over it, personally I don't think the hardcore fans will be happy with the final result.

I was happy with the Mario games and Golden Sun, but then this comes around and I was like "Retro Studios", until Team Ninja showed up. Thought it was Sin and Punishment 2 until I thought about it. Then came Samus and '_' turned to X_X, I was floored. Absolutely cannot wait.

yeah you maybe right, but seeing Samus put someone in a head lock and shoot them in the mouth was jaw dropping

which has to be a direct reference to Metroid Fusion, and therefore places this game before any of the other Metroid games?

Oh, gosh, you\'re right. But that can\'t be right because she\'s clearly in the Fusion suit. Could it be a flashback?

Damn, Samus looks great! The graphics looked a little too colorful to me, though, and I\'m not sure about Ninja Samus.

Did you catch the bit at the end? The other chick is like \"I\'m Samus Aran\" and it\'s like holy shit. Maybe Samus has a sister?

It's a collaboration with Nintendo, though - I can't see them letting them complete remove the franchise from what it is.

That wasn\'t a fusion suit, that was a Zero suit. Fusion Suit looks completely different. The zero suit then molds into her power suit.

I liked how there was a charge gauge for your power beam (just beneath the health bar) so that you know when you\'re at maximum capacity.

I have a feeling that this will be like the first game in the storyline.
Is the woman at the beggining meant to be samus? or has samus traveled back in time or something to see her past self? Or is samus somehow related to the others?
And, Whos the black guy? \"Remember me?\" erm, nope.

Also, I wonder if this encorporates the Ship from the 100%end of metroid prime 3, if it doesn\'t, I think it\'s safe to say that Retro might still be working on another Metroid Series

Any of you played the Ninja Gaiden franchise?

I think Team Ninja makes a great game but I know how camera angle changes affects your gaming the bad way.

I really like the idea of Samus\'* new high speed action 3D game \'cause it really brings memories of what were Metroid games back in the SNES, that\'s something Retro Studios couldn\'t do with the Prime series in the actual gameplay \'cause a few screw attacks in-game and superhuman moves only in cutscenes didn\'t give me that feel.

I personally doubt Team Ninja makes a fix in their camera problem, maybe Nintendo will help to fix that.

Onto the video, we can speculate anything about the story...

*: I don\'t think that\'s Samus unless she decided to change her look. But then again if that isn\'t Samus then this lady was trained by the Chozo to get superhuman flexibility aswell? I do think the girl at the end is Samus, and this new Power Suit heroine is her succesor... my mind flies.

As I said with Brawl a few months back, \"expect the unexpected\"... but don\'t expect something like Kirby being a new Metroid species .
