Interesting results, PAL ain't so bad after all.Smilie

So if you're going for Japanese N64 games, does that mean you'll get Sin and Punishment and Bangai-o? I'd love to know what S & P is like with the N64 controller, on the VC with Classic and GC pads it just doesn't feel right, too loose.Smilie

Argh, makes me want to play Perfect Dark again.
Yaay! We did it, we played PD multiplayer last weekend! It was still great.
Us 3 vs 4 bots, with just the coolest weapons selected (AR34, K7 Avenger, stuff like that. No explosions, they suck when you're playing 'one hit kills').

I just bought the Jap versions of Banjo-Kazooie, Wave Race 64, and Majora\'s Mask. BK is in mint condition, fully boxed and manual etc, MM and WR64 are just the carts, in average condition. Fiver each for BK and MM, while WR64 is costing me a mighty 4. I\'ll be doing comparisons with their PAL versions on arrival. As for predictions, I\'m already pretty sure that PAL OoT and MM, while full-screen, run slower than the NTSC originals. However, I\'m basing this off the GC emulations of OoT and MM, which were 60Hz. It could be a quirk of the emulation. We\'ll see. I expect the BK PAL vs NTSC comparison to be much like the PD and GE one. As it\'s another Rare game. Again, we\'ll see.

As for Wave Race 64, I already know the story there. One of the N64\'s defining early games, ruined by one of the shittest PAL conversions known to man. I can\'t wait to play it as it was intended. NTSC collection = growing Smilie

I played PD with my bird last night. Caned her on it. I\'m not convinced that her heart was in it, really.

*bumpage*

Last time I\'m bumping this. Mainly to ask if someone can sticky this thread? From now on I\'m just going to be editing the first post. If it\'s stickied, it\'ll then gradually become a source of information on the subject. Worth a sticky? Cheers Smilie

Oh yeah, edited the first post Smilie

Edit: Also, can someone move this? Should be in the \'Retro Gaming\' section, really.

I got my new US N64 modded yesterday with the best version of the mod, the one sourcing a signal direct from the chip rather than the resistors-

I actually much prefer the increase framerate over the lack of a few bars of resolution given my display. Perfect Dark plays very well, I have noticed the up in sound quality.

Perfect Dark ftw

EDIT:

Is that a [18] label on Perfect Dark PAL?, that looks pretty unsightly, you should remove it if you can.

Good thread - I too have a sizable PAL collection (most CIB) and have been thinking about moving to NTSC for the games that got a poor conversion. Would like to see comparisons for Mario Kart, Mischief Makers and Pilotwings....

Hi - Martin, this is a brilliant thread, I would love to discuss this further if you're still available . I have a RGB modded NTSC N64 & am getting a PAL RGB modded one next week & have a growing collection of games for each. I would like to post & see more results for various games....
