while playing metroid i found something that got my hopes up.
"Experiment status report update: Metroid project 'Dread' is nearing the final stages of completion." while scanning the enviroment in space pirate homeworld.
this is either nintendo keeping the rumors alive, or theve been extremly secretive, or its been cancelled but they like to fool us. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO THINK
make it happen nitendo, and fast^^

We'll see.

u never know

Guest 15.12.2007#4

Probably.

Maybe.

No, Retro confirmed a while back that there is no such game or project in production.

Guest 15.12.2007#7

Well, not quite. It all depends.

I would've thought the interest the message created would give Nintendo a hint.Smilie

Was it really?

Yeah I saw the same thing.

Didn't the same thing happen with Metroid Prime Hunters, or am I tripping? I'm pretty sure that Metroid Prime (2?) made some cryptic reference to 'Hunter' or 'Hunters'... and a little while later we got Metroid Prime Hunters.

I don't believe for a second that this is just co-incidence, Metroid Dread is (or was) in development. It may have been canned, it may be nearing completion, but either way we will find out eventually.

yeh, if there is any news on this front everyone will find out eventually, going back to Maquis's point its either highly likely that its in production or vice versa.
And scince there hasent been a new 2d metroid scince 2002 (fusion) the ds is crying out for another metroid game, hunters was ok, pinball was just a developers spin off to make money, what we realy need is a Propper 2D.

Maybe.

I remember a while a go that Nintendo filed a patent on Metroid Dread.
Eat it.

-Have you any idea what it's like to be a Fembot living in a Manbot's Manputer's world?
-What?

As far as i know there have been no gameplay videos relesed, probably an internet joke or gameplay form a previous game. the only thing is we dont know if we are gonna get a new metroid or not.

Well, this is the situation as I know it;

Retro (Not Nintendo, remember, Nintendo would be making Metroid Dread, and Retro made Prime) would have put it in there for various reasons:

- A complete coincidence, i.e. Retro didn't know about the "Dread" rumour.
- An inside joke, to tease the Metroid fans, and stir up the fan communities (IMO the most likely)
- Retro really do know that Dread is in production, and it is really nearly done (IMO the least likely)

Seeing as I seemingly remember Retro "debunking" this or something... I don't think we'll see Dread, and I don't think it's nearly done. Although, the Prime series is finished, and unless Nintendo want to kill the Metroid series (again) then the next step would likely be a new 2D game, namely Metroid 5.

Matt Casamassina, when asked about Metroid Dread in a podcast on the August 24, 2007, mentioned that "a wink to the fans" about the game was in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, although he clarified that this was by no means a confirmation of the title. This was later explained as an in-game message in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (by scanning a panel within the Pirate Homeworld's "Metroid Processing" room) stating "Experiment status report update: Metroid project 'Dread' is nearing the final stages of completion."[45]. In an interview, Pacini stated that this was a coincidence and not related to the rumoured game[46]. On September 6, 2007 Nintendo said they are "not making the 2D Metroid at this point in time." [47] This does not, however, rule out another 3D Metroid game.
