With 13 years of competitive play under its belt and counting, Super Street Fighter II Turbo is widely considered to be 2-D fighting perfected. A high octane, extremely offense-minded fighter, how is it that Capcom plans to improve upon perfection? By bringing in the comic masterminds at UDON to redraw the entire game, pixel-for-pixel.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (wow again) for Xbox Live Arcade and PSN mirrors the same tactic Capcom utilized with their Hyper Fighting release - the goods you remember, only with online play. This time, however, Capcom is taking care of business in-house and utilizing the insight that 13 years of worldwide, top-tier competition has brought to the game.

While SSF2T HD is a pixel-for-pixel recreation of the game, they aren't ruling out making slight changes to the game. It will be lost on the average player, but when the faithful get a load of the slight but sexy frame tweaks, they'll freak out. And they will love it.

Capcom didn't have anything to show on the project, but they did say that the entirety of the game is being redrawn, from the character select, all the way through to backgrounds and endings. While it would be heaven in a download if they could also work in the original SSF2T, it is something they are currently considering. Capcom is aiming for a release this Fall.

Well, there you have it, Super Street Fighter II Turbo is being remade for XBL and PSHome with totally redrawn sprites for HD! Woo! It's now going to bear the stupid, long-ass name of 'Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix', but that's typical Capcom. I'm aware that most won't care about this, especially since it's nothing to do with Wii, but there's a few PS3 owners around here, and more than enough 360 owners to warrant a thread. Spyderlee brought this to my attention, he couldn't be arsed to make a thread himself Smilie

I just can't wait to see it! Street Fighter II with sexy new high-definition animation! I wonder if they'll make it as smooth as SFIII? This is such awesome news!

HADOKEN!

Great news, except I don't have a 360 (yet), I probably won't be able to see the improvements and I have the original anyway. Terrific news none-the-less though.

The 360 pad will probably be a bit shit to play it with though.

Since noone else replied, ill be good Smilie.

I think Capcom will screw up a Street Fighter remake, like they have for the past, what is it, 10 years? Instead i do look forward to Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix.

P.S Got to love the quality of those "HD" player sprites - Wow, truely Wow!

Nah you'll notice, the difference will be huge. And it's not only redrawing everything in higher resolution, it seems they're upping the amount of frames in each character's animation sets, too! The 360 pad is okay for Street Fighter, certainly no worse than any other console pad.

They won't screw it up? I've got Hyper Street Fighter II on my Xbox, and it's arcade perfect. The old SNES and Megadrive versions seem so pants next to the real arcade quality. God knows how crappy the VC SNES ROM of Street Fighter will seem next to this Smilie

If you dislike the 360 pad for it, you can always get on of these:

About the Game, looks good, but the logo looks crap.

That looks hideous. Is it real?

Supposedly. Was noticed a while ago.

Unless the d-pad on the 360 controller is a lot better than the Xbox I would absolutely hate it.

I think its just another way for Capcom to make more money from SF

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

The 360 pads are such a fantastic change, try not to think of Xbox pads any more as i would easly rate the new 360 pad over a PS1/PS2/PS3 style classic controller - for the first time.

Fits perfectly in the hand, is the perfect weight for being wireless, balances the weight over the whole pad, buttons feel sort and responsive, the analogs are great, dpad i dont really use but no problems when it is used, new white/black buttons = great change.

I dont know, the recent Street Fighter remake for Xbox 360 arcade (the one before this one, yes there milking it lol) was terrible, online play was near impossible (lag for the lose). I hope this time they put some work into it and actually UPDATE the series. I want speed, action, keypad smashing and working online properly Smilie.

I like saying "i want i want" and knowing its 50%/50% if ill get it or not. I want a none SNES SF2 "slow as feck" street fighter rom port running at breakneck (lol) poor emulation.... erm, nope, 0% chance of getting that one. Smilie

Puzzle Fighter on Live... joyous.

See no Wiivil

Oh I didn't know the last XBL one was crap.

If the sprites actually look like that... And are as smooth/smoother than the Street Fighter 3 sprites...

Agreed - The sprites, i could wank over those sprites, they looks so SICK. Cant wait for this game.

Only slight concern I have about this is online play, if it lags even the tiniest bit it will ruin it, although the PS3 seem to have nailed the no lag-ness, 43 player action of Resistance and 12 player races on Motorstorm and ive seen no lag at all, hopefully they can keep it up.

I'm afraid lag will always be an issue over the net with fighting games. As long as the game itself is as amazing as it has the potential to be, I'm not going to hold any online lag against it. Though, lack of an offline VS mode will be unforgivable.

Too true, although I seriously cant see that happening, but not having played any recent street fighters im assuming they have in a previous one?

About the lag, I dunno, I hope they do sort it out but im duvious if they will or not, as you say it will always be a problem but maybe they can reduce it to not being AS noticable. I can imagine it now, you whacking out a difficult 24 hit combo, first time youve ever done it, having the image freeze and lag, then unfreezing with your opponent hitting you with like...a low kick, that would piss me off majorly.

BTW Oni, check my post/link in the music topic, you'd like it.

A company. Releasing a product. For money?

Unheard of!

In other news, the grass is still green, and the moon is not made of cheese. Smilie

Nah not at all, I'm just being over paranoid about the online-focus (it has online play, and is distributed online). I can't imagine in a million years that it won't have a normal offline VS mode.

It's just the nature of fighting games, I'm afraid. Particularly faster more intense fighting games like Street Fighter. The game relies on highly precise timing. Even a minute amount of ping will have a noticeable effect on gameplay, unlike racing games,FPS games, etc (certainly a more noticeable effect).

They can get it down to the point where it's not bad, and you can still have an enjoyable online gaming experience with it, but it'll always just sort of 'be there'. Until they invent some radical new way of sending and receiving data over the internet, games of Street Fighter's ilk will always be adversely effected, even if only slightly.

If they do it well it'll be perfectly playable, though.

It's worse, it's the main downside of it. I've sanded down the rim a bit so it's better but still pretty bad.

I might look into sticks when the new Treasure shooter turns up.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

I don't know what's with you crazy people and your D-pads... Fighting games are so much easier with the Analogue stick. I would rather sand down my face than play Street Fighter Alpha 3 with the Dreamcast controller's D-Pad after using the analogue stick

For 2D fighting games, I tend to prefer using the D-pad. Find it easier to use for combos.

When you have to press a direction twice on an analogue stick it's crap. In God Hand you have to quickly double tap forwards to sprint, it's really irritating.

I use the analogue for SotN on XBLA, and it's fine apart from when I need to do a similar manoeuvre to dash whilst in wolf form.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

I will be getting this as soon as i can shinshoryureppa!. LS
