Nintendo's Game Boy has hit the tabloid front pages, following the tragic death of a seven-year-old boy in Thailand. This morning, the Mirror newspaper reports that Connor O' Keefe was electrocuted while uplugging his Game Boy charger in his hotel room, during a family holiday.

Local police have stated that the incident, which happened last Saturday, was most likely to have occurred when the boy attempted to use the electrical equipment while still wet, returning from the hotel's swimming pool. According to the Telegraph newspaper, Wiraporn Ungathakorn, acting manager of the Sunset Beach Hotel in Thailand said: "The water must have gone straight into the plug. The safety cut could not save him. He was found by his parents in the room and we sent him to hospital by ambulance. Doctors could not save him. The hotel has paid his medical fees. This was just a tragic accident."

However, speaking to the Mirror, Kathleen Curry, the boy's mother, debunked the claims, noting that Connor was aware of the dangers of electricity: "There should be some kind of warning about the different electrical currents you get abroad because this would not have happened in England."

In response to the story, a spokesperson for Nintendo told us, "Nintendo wishes to offer its sincere condolences to the family of Connor O' Keefe. Details of the accident are currently unclear so we are unable to make any further comment at this stage."

Poor bugger. I mean, dying is bad enough, but to be killed by a Gameboy is just embarrasing.

Well it could have been an alarm clock, it had nothing to do with it being a gameboy...I wish the world would agree on one kind of outlet.

Check out all this.

Gods in His Heaven. Alls right in the World.

I hate how this'll be spinned to be Nintendo's fault. I mean, what the hell?

It's like that story that was in the paper a year or so ago. Two underage girls, got pissed one night in their town, came to a train crossing on the way home. The barriers were down, the lights were flashing, and the beeper was going off. Yet the girls went under the lowered flashing beeping barrier, and were flatenned by a passing freight train.

And guess what? British Rail was blamed by the tabloids for their deaths.

There should be some kind of warning about the different electrical currents you get abroad because this would not have happened in England

Thailand runs 220Volts to sockets....

Not sure about their plug socket types, wether they have the neutral terminal or not.

At least he died doing what he loved...

When they say gameboy, do they mean GB, GBC, GBA GBA Micro, or DS? I find that all too often a DS is labeled as a Gameboy.

Just curiousity.

Still, the tabloids are making it sound as though the gameboy stabbed him or something.

I think a Thailand Charger was at fault because it says that he always charged up his GameBoy fine when he was at home.

Wasn't there a guy lasy year who killed his son because he was addicted to his GameCube.

Tin Can Man, they showed a picture of the GBASP on front of the Mirror but they probably could just guessed which one it was.

Really? I think I remember something about that actually...

I remember me and Ole read the front page of the mirror (again) and it said father kills son over a games console.

We bothed joked going it will never be the GameCube, and when we flipped over to whatever page it was the GameCube was slap bang in the middle of the page.

If it was either an Xbox or a Playstation the headline would have read :

it wasn't it was a GameCube ask Ole i read the article and it said he was obsessed with his Nintendo GameCube and there a big pic of a GameCube in the middle of the page.

You may be on about a separate case

WTF lol, I was saying that if it had been a Playstation or Xbox that the kid was addicted to, the title would be different.

The handle could be interrupted differently ie batter your son to death, not do able on the Xbox or PS2, however jut dropping the Xbox on your son would kill them instantly.

Sorry FJD interrupted it differently but you are probably right.

Handles are good for whacking people with. Y'know? That's why Old Lady's love handbags. It's like they were CREATED for whacking people with.

What next? Wii banned because someone let go of a real baseball bat? Smilie

EDIT: A lot of pies can be eaten in one generation. Sony were so greedy they took them all for their new love child, whilst Nintendo's baby was late, & when it got to the 7th gen party, all the pies were gone. 360 had been casually nibbling at things for the past year.

Wii, on the other hand, got nothing. It was christened Wii for the reason it's so small. Poor wee Wii. Smilie

Unlucky. Still, at least it's an interesting way to die.

And Xete, something on that wikipedia site really made me laugh:

Power plugs are male electrical connectors that fit into female electrical sockets.

Unplugging his game boy from the socket?

Avoid Games Like the Plague, productivity++

I'd love it if Nintendo took the mirror to court for liable. The headline states that the gameboy was responsible for this boy's death which it appears wasn't the case.
