Play.com received 7, 000 preorders for Wii within 9 days!

How many sold? In nine days, 7,000 units have been pre-sold, even though they won't actually be delivered until December. That makes it the biggest and quickest launch ever on the site.

The piece does say that Wii doesn't do shoot 'em ups, which is misguided to say the least. Still, this is great for Nintendo. Provided they can ship enough units to the UK, Wii could replace PSP's record breaking 180-something thousand debut weekend.

Ya see, that's why it's not always the best idea to pre-order online. I wandered into my local GAME store today, asked for a pre-order, and was #8, even though they started taking the orders a few days ago.

I'm one. Pre-ordered on the 15th (September).

7,000 isn't really that impressive though. Think about how many Wii's will be available at launch, 7,000 will be a small percentage of that.

I don't see Nintendo having the same problems as Microsoft did with the Xbox360. Microsoft clearly rushed to get the 360 out as soon as possible. Nintendo have been building Wii's since July haven't they?

I think so, a few bits and bobs have been in production since. I think this should hopefully be one of the most solid and accessible launches in recent times!
