Well as you lot have said, it's not going to happen. Both are successful companies in their own rights, and if one was to engulf the other (which would require a LOT of money) then they'd take on more competitors and leave themselves more likely to be beaten in markets. Nintendo also would never sell.

Also what happens to Apple when the iPod phase goes out which it inveitably will (its not a lasting brand like say GameBoy is) is it.
I disagree. iPod has become so ingrained in the publics' minds and pockets that it's a brand that'll last for years, providing Apple keep up their support of it and refresh it every so often.

Yeah, there was. But Yamauchi essentially waved his genitals at the proposal.

Yeah thanks for that image Hazuki
I mean if ninty didn't yeild to microsoft, then why would they sell themselves to apple? I think this rumour is utter bullocks.

The worst thing to happen to Sega since someone in a boardroom said "I have a plan, it's called milking the mega drive for all it's worth".
There's an interesting post on Joystiq that has some good reasons why Apple wouldn't be able to buy Nintendo,
They makes a profit. Nintendo has been profitable practically every year since it moved into the video game industry over two decades ago. The Nintendo DS continues to sell at a phenomenal rate, and Nintendo has yet another hit on its hands with the New Super Mario Bros.
They have a potential mega-seller on their hands. Every poll Joystiq has put up has placed the Nintendo Wii in the running for a comeback, and the mainstream audience has been given some positive news about it by way of outlets such as the New York Times. As Next Generation wrote, Nintendo is making some really smart moves in terms of marketing its new console.
Nintendo does not want to sell. The last time a rumor like this surfaced was when Bill Gates commented on how he'd love to purchase Nintendo. At that point, the possibility of such a merger was laughed at by most analysts and Nintendo officials. And that was in 2004, before the DS took off and before the hype for the Wii.
Keiretsu: A business system in Japan that, as the CNET article accurately notes, "makes conventional takeovers exceptionally hard." Being that it would be Apple's only chance of holding hands with Mario, that is not good news.
A quick google search and Apple have a market value of $50 Billion with assets of $13.91 Billion.
Nintendo have a market value up a little from when I looked at them in IG, now with a market value of $19.06 Billion and assets of $10.47 Billion.
Numbers aside you simply can't buy a company worth more in the market than the assets you own. So yes, theory thrashed.
Edit, oops missed this page. Anyway it's a little more complicated than what I posted, but if as noted MSFT couldn't buy Nintendo there's no chance Apple could either.

NO! However ATARI maybe interesting. We have been thinking about a merger between ourselves and Apple. Talks have been taken place but the rest is under an NDA.
Sorry
Would never happen. The electronic video gaming culture in Japan is a major source of revenue for the country, helping to turn around alot of its financial problems.
Nintendo also stated about a year ago, they will expand the culture to pull Japan from repression. (they seem to be true to their word if the DS and hype around the Wii is anythinbg to go by)
Also, Microsoft offered $42 billion and they said no, Apple just couldnt afford this.
Besides, they (Nintendo) dont need the money. FACT.

You didn't read the topic then...

Because Apple can afford nintendo...
Seriously though I wish people would just fuck off and leave the industry alone... We don't need 5 different consoles at any one time. I mean it's bad enough just having one handheld and one console. If they are intending to try and get into the industry, and if they bring something worthwhile to it then o.k fine, but if it's just gonna be a Microsoft and just act in the EXACT some way as an existing company then what's the point?
The one thing people probably aren't looking at is Apple focusing on their home market. Apple is gaining market share in the home PC sector but there's a lot of ground to make up and one of the reasons people don't buy an Apple is because of lack of games. Vista is launching with Halo 2 as well as any other 360 exclusives MS wants to chuck its way. What's Apple got? bugger all. If Apple can start mmaking games to capitalise on their hardware (which is so strict its practically a console) then it may be just what they need to make a succesful lunge at MS's jugular.
