Of all the times for my internet connection to break, it had to be this week.

It is so hard to take all of this in, those videos are amazing. Words don't describe how fantastic Mario Galaxy looks. I can't wait!

hopefully its gonna be better than mario sunshine

thats not really hard. question is can it live up to its 10 year old pre decessor?

Well, I reckon it stands a decent chance of standing up to the ledgendary Mario 64.. it takes time, loads of playthroughs, Nintendo are already confident that Twilight Princess is the greatest Zelda ever, & Nintendo usually are right (except with GC... maybe)

But I reckon if THIS is THE Mario 128 they've been working on for so long, it has a good chance! Smilie

Seemed hard enough for... Well... Every other developer on the planet... Sunshine was awesome. Don't even TRY to argue Smilie

Sunshine was awesome, but it didn't have the feel... the magic that Mario 64 did, possibly because of the whole water thing, it potentially ruined Mario platforming, but this looks great, classic Mario worlds mixed with upside down & on the side planets with crazy gravity!! Smilie

Mario 64 was good (though highly overrated), Sunshine was pretty average...I don't get why so many people like it.

If you want a decent platformer from this generation, pick Jungle Beat, not Mario Sunshine Smilie (I know people will disagree with me here!)

EDIT: Damn you quotes!

Jungle Beat WAS completely awesome... while it lasted... (a few hours to tell you the truth....)

But It's great to go & playback everynow & then, but Mario Sunshine was definitely better in terms of lifespan.

Super Mario 64 as awesome but what you don't sound like you seem to realise is that this was the first three-dimensional platformer with Mario. Do you think anything will live up to that? Not really, but then again things can only get better. I felt Super Mario Sunshine was an awesome game and a true sequal, and now with Super Mario Galaxy it will be much like a sequal to the

i dont really play platofrmers, and i sold sunshine after about a month of having it.

also, Banjo Tooie >>> Mario 64.

It reminds me of that raven penguin boss from Yoshi's Island.

Over-rated? Do you realise what that game meant to what is now a $30 billion industry?
If your old enough to appreciate the initial impact this game had, you'll remember it being the first title to encourage interaction with motion, (which you may have heard alot about lately) doing away with the very limited, (but still fun) twitch gameplay.
Obviously an early attempt of what is now known as Wii.
Nintendos direction and philosophy is apparent, allow as much interaction with a piece of software as possible, without analogue, movement is halted, energy is produced but is void, therefore wasted.
The next big step in my eyes, is a similiar take on motion with the camera, after all, 3D pretty much means 'camera anywhere' so instead of using a camera stick, there are various other means to this if the technology were available, holograms, head visors and such, once and for all, doing away with the necessary use of a TV.
So what I'm saying is, you cant over-rate a template.

Yes yes yes I know all that stuff, it showed how 3D platformers could be made properly etc etc and, like I said, it's a good game. But it apppears in all kinds of 'top ten games of all time' or whatever and in all honesty it isn't *that* good. It's a template, but much better 3D platformers have been made since. I suppose the 'novelty' and 'newness' does count for a lot of people's opinions though.

I'm curious, what 3D platformers do you prefer then fenno?

Actually playing Mario 64 on the DS for the first time last year i was shocked at how good it was. Although Crash3 is the only other platformer i played on the Playstation cause the rest were pretty dodgy.

mario 64 on the ds was seriously crap cause of the touch screen and d pad man that thing is designed for an analoge stick still godd ubut better on '64 excuse drunk spelling

Sunshine was very fun in my opinion. All it lacked was length and diversity. However ninty seems to have addressed the latter. I hope they god they make the game last, because that is the bayne of platformers. I finish them too quick, thank god for the replay value.

Yeah, Sunshines engine was awesome, even more highly tuned than Mario64, when you run Mario in a really tight circle, he starts hopping, it takes some understanding of analogue, but its not difficult.

RE: Ard Ri
Yeah, Mario 64DS kinda sucked like that, I think Nintendo was just showcasing the fact that it was an analogue touchscreen. The funny thing was, technically it actually worked, when in reality with Mario 64 being so unique to the interface and the hardware of the N64, it shouldnt have.
And evidently it just didnt feel right.

You know strangely enough I'm the one who's constantly running around the Gamespot forums trying to convince people to go and buy Jungle Beat Smilie

And personally I really don't see a large difference in quality between Mario 64 and Sunshine. I think they're really both as good as each other. The only thing that made Sunshine bad was the length, and other than that it rocked. Grahpically it was awesome, especially in terms of Draw Distance... Standing on top of stuff and just looking around with the heat haze in that game is absolutely incredible.

I thought that the FLUDD gave the game far more life, rather than just making every level a series of jumping on stuff... And people whine because Nintendo once again decided to stray from the given formula. The people who are currently saying that's WHY Nintendo are better than Sony and Microsoft. A bit hypocritical really Smilie
