Just been on Kotaku and there's some very interesting stuff on there.
Firstly, PS3's release. Eurogamer got a hold of some design documentation or some such thing and it stated that God Of War 2 would be appearing on PS2 in February 2007 in America. Gran Turismo 4 Online Edition for Q2 2006 was also mentioned. Somewhat tellingly, the stories were later replaced saying that Sony had threatened legal action for posting the stories!
Now this suggests to me that PS3 is either going to delayed from a release this year, or they're keeping the PS2 going alongside it (not surprising considering how they continued support for PS1 for a bit). However, this leads me onto my next bit, which may have to be taken with a pinch of salt...
Kotaku also posted a leak from a guy who claims to be from Adobe/Macromedia - how he'd know I'm not sure, and so don't take this as confirmed true, definitely as a rumour. He claims that Sony will be advancing the EyeToy and creating some kind of controller like Revolution's to battle the system. That's no surprise, but this might be - for PS2. Sony are allegedly intending to run PS2 and PS3 side-by-side, PS3 doing all that they promised and PS2 taking down the Revolution by doing Revolution-style cheap games and offering the console at a $99 price point.
It could be a good idea - in theory. I'm pretty sure that Nintendo knew that they'd be trying to steal the controller idea, so there's probably something big they're keeping back for good reason, something that will set it apart from other consoles aside the controller.
What I find amusing is, from official interviews coupled with rumours, Sony seem more intent on beating Nintendo at their own game with the motion sensing, beating Microsoft at their own game with Live and don't seem to be concentrating on THEMSELVES. They'd better hope they've got some damn good exclusives, because as far as I'm concerned Sony have no real unique hook to make me want to get PS3 at this moment in time.
