Any Saturn fans here? Anyway, I've just got myself one for the first time and so far have the games:
-Panzer Dragoon
-Daytona USA
-Sega Rally Championship
-Sonic Jam
-Sonic 3D

Impressions:

Console: I love the controller, I think its the best digital pad ever. The graphics are... unusual, they have a slightly different appearence than any other console I've seen... anyone else know what I mean? Its a joy to play, very fun console, I'm likeing Sega more and more these days, perhaps more than Nintendo now *gasp*.

Panzer Dragoon: Great game, as a 1st generation Saturn game it was clearly made to impress people at the time as a lot of people new to polygon 3D graphics would be easily impressed, same with the FMV's and orchestral soundtrack. Its not the type of game that you'd expect to age very well, but somehow it still manages to be impressive, despite having blocky graphics, you can see the level of effort that went into it. I'm amazed at how fast it gets and so much effects for the time but the framerate holds up really well. So its RPG-like storyline combined with on-rails 3D shooting gameplay, like the flying sections from Sonic Adventure only good. Excelent infact, very enjoyable.

Daytona USA: brilliant. The soundtrack is going to be stuck in my head for months, I know it. Daaaaaaay-toooooo-naaaaaaaa! So many racers on Playstation and N64, even GameCube, say they're going at a high speed but feel like 1mph. Clearly Sega know more than most how to really give a good sence of speed, I haven't played any other racing game that feels so fast, with the exception, *maybe* of F-Zero GX which, actually, is made by Sega as well. I can't believe this cost

Great buy. How much did it cost you?

I still have my Saturn, it's in a drawer and it's home to some of my favourite games ever. It's a severely underrated console. You need to try and get the following games - they may be a little hard to find for a reasonable price, particularly the first:

Guardian Heroes - an excellent 2D scrolling 'brawler' with RPG elements (stats, levelling up, magic, HP/MP) by Treasure. There are loads of paths through the game (I think around 10 - 15 endings?), 6 characters to play the single player mode as (well, once you've completed the game once and unlocked the sixth) as well as an AMAZING multiplayer experience wherein there are about 45 selectable characters (defeat an enemy/character in the main game - it's unlocked in multiplayer). Absolutely essential, incredible game that is quite possibly my favourite game of all time.

Burning Rangers - fire fighting based fun in space from Sonic Team. You're a member of a special fire fighting unit called the Burning Rangers. You go around quite literally putting out fires and rescuing people. Put out fires and you get crystals, which are used to energise the teleportation of victims out of there. Fantastic, and the theme song WILL get stuck in your head.

Fighters Megamix - 3D fighter from Sega's AM2 department I think. Encompasses fighters from various Sega fighting games including the likes of Fighting Vipers and Virtua Fighter. Brill, and has some of the most bizarre hidden characters ever - the car from Daytona being one of them (it fights 'stood up' on it's rear wheels and punches with the front two...)

Marvel Superheroes - great 2D fighter from Capcom. Possibly the best 2D fighter I've played, but I can't remember it too well right now. I just know it's DAMN good.

You got your hands on Panzer Dragoon? How much 'd you pay if you don't mind me asking?

That was my first thought, but from what he's written, it's the first one, not the ultra rare, ultra expensive Panzer Dragoon Saga RPG...

It was

The Saturn was really underappreciated and was also home to some great games. Mine sits snugly beside my Dreamcast and Gamecube (and just underneath my PS2). The Virtua Cop series is one of my personal favourites and the games are still fun to play today. Panzer Dragoon Zwei is great stuff as well.

I know there's a Saturn in a flea market somewhere near me. I would've bought it, but the only Saturn game I've ever seen is Family Feud...Saturn games are hard to come by with using the internet, and I'm not much of an internet buyer.

I'll look into getting those games, I'm also interested in getting:

-Panzer Dragoon Zwei
-Panzer Dragoon Saga, but that depends on finding a good deal and how much money I've got then
-NiGHTS with the 3D controller
-Sonic R (may as well complete the set since I've got the other 2 Saturn Sonic games)

Seriously though, people that haven't got the Saturn should really get it, I'm really convinced now its a classic system, and it seams there are lots of great games. Maybe you should get one this christmas instead of an Xbox 360. Smilie

The Dreamcast is classic enough for me. I might come across a Saturn though... would be nice.

Game | Over
Focus*3

The Sega Saturn Super System! Why pay $150 for a PlayStation when a Saturn is only $75! Half the price and double the fun!

Further, you don't have to stress or fret about upcoming games, because there are none! They're all here NOW! That's right! Every last game is out now, so no more worrying about those pesky new releases coming out on odd days or between paycheques! Or pawing though magazines looking at previews and wondering what it will really be like! There is no waiting!

For the love of all that is innocent, do you really want to wait and suffer these unnecessary stresses?

Unlike the 64 controllers give you arthritis because they are so horrible, and the games themselves that wreck your eyes by having everything look like you're wearing glasses with Vaseline smeared on them, you have only beauty on the Saturn! The finest 2D games ever made, and it's 3D games don't have that crap anti-aliasing! That's right! No AA at all! Sega is here to save your eyes, while Nintendo has recently invested in several large eyeglass manufacturer chains! Nintendo is evil and hates you!

You could buy a Sony, but Sony is Japanese for Satan! Do you want your kids playing on Satan's console? For the love of your children, don't buy a PlayStation!

And for every Saturn you buy, you'll get FIVE, that's right, FIVE free games! On the N64, these games would carry a retail price of $450! That's like getting 6 free Saturns! With savings like that, you could buy another one!

As you can see, the Saturn is the only console you should be considering. Sega loves you, and wants only to keep you safe from the scourge that is Sony and Nintendo.

Won't you buy a Saturn and let Sega love you?

From http://www.actsofgord.com , great site. Smilie

That site's genius. I read through it all a month or so ago, some excellent anecdotes.

I'm sure there are some more classics on the Saturn, I just can't think of them at the moment. I'll come back with some more when I remember...

Heres are a couple of other Saturn anecdotes I found:
