IGN.com has got a hands on report of the "almost finished" version of Need For Speed Underground 2 for the DS. And it is definitely sounding good Smilie

"Where the Nintendo DS version shines is in its 3D engine. Pocketeers has managed extremely detailed environment, fast speed, and a silky smooth 60 FPS framerate for Need for Speed Underground 2. The Nintendo DS version of Need for Speed Underground 2 is the only version of the series to run at this ultra-slick framerate, and it really shows off the sense of speed right from the beginning. The trade off, though, is that the Nintendo DS doesn't offer any sort of texture smoothing or advance texture effects beyond the lighting on the cars as they zoom through the streets. Still, this is one game to look at if you want to see what the Nintendo DS system can pull off in the realm of 3D capabilities."

There is a one page report, but i think that is the best part, 60FPS Smilie
and although its not that great looking, on the small screens and while racing, it should look damn good for the DS Smilie
Theyve got some more reading, and some pics and vids too, so check it out, definitely great news, should be the best racer for Ds so far, check the article here *clicky, clicky*.

thoughts??
Could be a game worth picking up Smilie

Great. Looks to be decent at the very least! Smilie

Never really liked NFS, and NFSU was pretty average on consoles, so I think I'll be giving this game a miss. Look at the videos on IGN, it just looks shoddy, pixelated, and why bother when Mario Kart is coming? Waste of money.

You can hardly compare NFSU2 and Mario kart, they are not even remotely similar other then racing around a course.

Thats like saying Destruction Derby and GT4 are the same, theyre not, so why compare two other games that have a completely different style of racing.

Plus its not that bad, wot were u expecting? It's DS, not PSP....
At least we dont have to wait much longer for this game, we dont even know when we'll be getting mario kart, but i agree MK will be better... Smilie

All I'm saying is, it looks pretty average, and why waste money on it when a better racing game is coming out? Might aswell just stick to MK Super Circuit until the DS MK.

Hmmm, i see your point, but still dissagree, i personally think NFS games are ppretty average, and dont really like them, however, i can see this game looks pretty kool, and has some good ideas in it. So if there are any fans of the series, they should really look into it...

Well, it may look average, but it could suprise us.

Think Goldeneye, buy with more hope.

NFSU2 was beter than NFSU, so im tempted to get it to see how theyve done with it ths time.

See no Wiivil
Hear no Wiivil
Speak no Wiivil

This makes me even more sad about the DS not having smooth texturing etc.
Why didn't they implement those effects in the console?
About the game sounds good, I could get it maybe!

It'd help if we saw some footage of other tracks. I'm getting damn sick of that city track.

Maybe that's all there is? Smilie

Not bad but I'd prefer a more decent driving game.

You found the word nipple! And you love touching them!

it may not be that great guys, but i mean, atm its the best the DS has, and there probably wont be a better one for a while(mario kart??)

I swear if you buy it you'll want to return it. Just look at the vidoes, it looks pants. Hold on for Mario Kart! And in the mean time play the GBA MK, which is fucking awesome. Good plan?

Yeah we should just wait for some reviews of it before buying it and anyway Picpax and Another code will be out soon better buying one of those.

I will choose either, Asphalt Urban GT, Ridge Racer or NFSU2 for my DS.
I'll just wait until the propper reviews of NFSU2 come out, then make my decision, I need a car racing game for the DS.

I think you should wipe Asphalt off the list, slightly above average seems it's standing sadly.

RR/NFSU should hopefully be good, at the least Smilie

RR has been slated for an awful control mechanism and I'm not holding much hope for NFS:U2 as the Gameboy Advance one was shite (I generously scored it about 30%)

Hmm, RobTheBuilder has RR and actually quite likes it, and another random commenter I saw online seemed to think the control mode is pretty good if you give it a heap of practice, but yes it has been slated in reviews.

As for NFSU, it'll go two ways, 70/80% or plain old rubbish, time will tell

NFS:U is not a handheld racing game. Its a bog-standard racer that relys on the graphics and environments to draw the player in (I love the console versions) which the handhelds can not adequately produce.

Ridge Racer's controls are fine if you don't use the stylus. I think we'll just have to wait and see what NFS:U2 is like before we pass judgement.

Instead of this, let's all just buy ping pals!

I agree with Chris. I'm just waiting for Mario Kart.

I've never liked Need For Speed either. It's EA all over, flashy graphics and crappy gameplay. I'll be giving this one a miss too.

The NDS
