Nintendo News | First Wii Music Details

By Jorge Ba-oh 19.01.2008 19

The first details of the upcoming Wii Music game have emerged, revealing a "Play Sessions" approach, with players jamming to various old and new Nintendo themes, each having different parts (and controls) from a range of 40 instruments (e.g. Folk Guitar, Bass, Trumpet..)

For example, players can control their trumpet by holding their Wii remote at an angle for high sounds, and a lower angle for a different range. Guitarists use the C button as their pick, with both single notes and chords possible.

For the musical family, players can get together to fill 4 out of 6 possible band members, the remaining are CPU based.

Wii Music is set to take the stage later this year.

I'm thinking this game will rule - Miyamoto + music games (the genre that probably brings me most joy) = win. Looking forward to it...Smilie

If Koji Kondo is heavily involved alongside him it's going to be quality.

Agreed - I can't see any way that he wouldn't be.

Sounds really good, although I'm afraid that learning the different ways of playing might be hard. On the other hand, you'll probably see on the screen what you have to do. =)

Now this sounds very promising.

Sounds like Guitar Hero without all the wanking.

I want this game now!

This game looks good!
SmilieLooks better than that old preview they had a while back

Sounds great though I imagine some instruments will work better than others.
I'd also like some non-nintendo themes but I appreciate that when it comes to music games - Nintendo is appauling at getting actual real life songs.

Would be great to implement Guitar Hero's controller... *lol*

I'm anxious to hear how these instruments play with Wiimote. I am looking forward for the feeling of it.

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

I think this will be really good, but would like to know if they're just going to include Nintendo songs or some popular songs. They're going for a bit more of a general/family theme by the looks of things, rather than just all rock music like GHIII (I like it, but there are other genres that use guitars as well, it's a bit on the heavy side, some acoustic tracks would have been great for a variation).

Being Nintendo first party you would think the controls would work well, and choosing your instrument as well as 4 player with hardware you already have, rather than buying some specific for the game is good.

I expect this game will be Nintendo's 2008 Christmas casual/family title, at least in Japan/US, might be WiiFit in Europe if it doesn't release before summer. Smilie
I wouldn't be surprised if this is almost or already finished and they're just holding it back for the right time to release it. It's obviously been in development for a long time, first video was before the Wii was released.

That looks like an awesome game, ill definitely buy it if/when it comes out. Smilie

It's looking extremely interesting. It's would be good if it was WiFi so we could all play sweet music together. I'll conduct Smilie.

This will be great as long as there's enough great tunes - old and new - to satisfy everyone. I hope the soundtrack from various instruments is orchestral. It should be great at a reduced price and hopefully there will be online with various players filling in the instruments.

I'd love to be surprised, but I doubt there will be any online.

I'd also be shocked if this game was at a reduced price and would like to know why you think it might be? The only reason Nintendo would release this at a reduced price would be if they didn't think it would sell at full price, and maybe if it didn't have many features, like Wii Chess.

I expect this to be full price, sell well, have no online multiplayer (which wouldn't be much of a problem in my opinion), but local multiplayer.

It looks like they're going for a more orchestral appeal so I expect that there might not be any vocals. I just hope there are other songs in there as well as Nintendo songs, such as some famous classical songs, and/or some instrumental well known songs.

I'd like to see not only the suggested online version where all different people join a band, but also a version where we create our OWN band, and have mini comps. with other people. Sweeeeeet.Smilie
