Industry News | Midway Blames Wii Shortages

By Jorge Ba-oh 02.11.2007 25

Midway recently revealed that shortages in hardware for Nintendo's ever-popular Wii has had an affected the company's support for the platform.

During a conference call with the release of Midway's Q3 results, Miguel Iribarren, vice president of publishing, commented on the Wii's support.

"The demand for Wii product has put a pretty big strain on Nintendo's production capacity, and that has in turn, for us, turned into longer lead times for some of our Wii products And that, during the holidays - given product coming out in a short timeframe - has resulted, for us, in reduced ability to get product to shelves."

Perhaps if the products weren't crap ports...

Be sure to stick around for updates.

I second that. The best they've given us is MK. Armegeddon.Smilie

Those lazy bastards why are they blaming nintendo for their own rushed out shit ports.

OMG DUDE YOU OWN!!! "Perhaps if the products weren't crap ports...." your my hero <3

<_< maybe if they was was some good it sell look at res evil 4 lol they cant blame Big N

Just think of all the people queuing up to buy a Wii with the latest Mortal Combat this christmas. The disappointment, the tears, the domestic violence.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Support, what support? A half-assed port of Mortal Kombat, wow great job Midway, bravo.

It just had to be said - really. Other devs and Nintendo are really pushing the boat to create some original and decent looking titles.

What do we get?

Some lazy worse-than-DS Crusin' and some party game not even your grandma would buy you for Christmas.

And Konami.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

I can't believe that's the best excuse they could come up with... Sad, so sad...

Top games:
5-The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
4-Super Mario Galaxy
3-Eternal Darkness
2-Super Mario Bros 3
1-Super Mario Bros

So, let me get this straight:

1) Midway's complaining that Nintendo has made such an awesome new console and people are so rabid to get their grubby mits on one that Nintendo is having serious problems supplying their insatiable demand (despite them ramping up production cosiderably)...

2) and gamers haven't bought into their half-assed ports of last gen-games.

So they're cutting back support for the hottest game console on the market because of this? This is insanity. Shame on you Midway. Dumbasses.

The scariest part about this, is how many third parties are doing this type of crap with Wii. I'm so tired of getting pissed with these 3rd party companies and their insane decisions. *sigh*

Chance favors the prepared mind.

Exactly. "Uhh, this console is a little TOO popular, maybe we should release less games for it" Smilie

don't forget the fact that Wii has the greatest marketshare this generation. Morons work at Midway.

Shame, I was looking forward to Blacksite 51 Wii.

Smilie shortages? Yeah, it's a bit of a problem, but considering Wii is already the most popular console in this gen's console war (as far as sales go at least...) it's probably more to do with the fact that the only game Miday's done for it is an effortless port of a PS2 game. Woohoo. Smilie

Be realistic mate. They wouldn't have bothered rebuilding a UE3 game for the Wii, even if they were supporting it more strongly.

Midway lol

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

This definitely has the smell of "shareholder mollification" about it.

But I want a brand new Wii update of Marble Madness, already. Get on it, Midway.

Midway makes me laugh.

They should stop making 4/5 shitty ports/party games/old MK builds and if they dedicate all their resources from these 4/5 games into one decent, ground-up Wii game I'm sure they'll be raking it in.

You say that like Midway still has people who can make original games.

Less support from Midway? I see nothing to shed tears over...

wtf the wii is still OUTSELLING everything else? how is this logical, why dont you just not mke games on any platform? cos that ps3 sure aint sellign well...that would be better

that was the death of Gamecube as well... Nintendo made too good a game to not bust 3rd parties their lazy crap support.
I own one Midway-game. Gauntlet Legends on N64. And that was a lazy port of the Dreamcast one, which was an 1:1 port from arcade. Only with better graphics then N64.

I find your lack of faith disturbing!
