Nintendo Wii Media | Monkey King: The Legend Returns (New Art & Screens)

By Adam Riley 09.10.2007 12

UFO Interactive is bringing Starfish's Monkey King: The Legend Begins exclusively to Wii later this year and the team has sent Cubed3 some fresh screens and art from the shooter. Below are some details about the game itself, plus the link to the game's media folder:

The legend begins! Go on a fantastic journey through ancient China as the legendary Monkey King. Deadly forces have invaded the heavenly kingdom and it is up to you to protect this land as you fight your way to becoming a God. Fly on your magical cloud and defeat the hordes of enemies that come your way on your quest to fulfill your destiny as the Chuka Taisen.

An arcade classic reinvented for the Wii system that utilises the motion controls to let players literally dodge attackers and take control of the action. With graphics that depict the beauty of ancient China from which this story came, users will be able to fly in the shoes of the legendary Monkey King and relive the tale for which he became famous.

That looks and sounds great, just my kind of thing, there is very nice style about it. This new mechanic sounds interesting, I think you can see it in action in some of those shots where the horizon line is tilted. It reminds me a little of Zonk. I will definitely look forward to seeing more of this coz I do love my shooters. I may well be getting this also if it turns out to be good, it certainly looks as though it will be.

I wish more games came out on the Wii that are like Super Paper Mario. 2D is a freaking craze. Put it on the most popular console on Earth, stick it with a budget price and you've got a bloody seller.

More shoot 'em ups for the Wii is good thing. But this game? No, it's a horrible blasphemy on the original. I've heard that it's absurdly easy, even on the hardest difficulty setting.

Of course, that's just an opinion.

Who did you hear that from?, I doubt that's true, it's just very unlikely that it would be as easy as that.

People on the shmups.com forums who've already played it say it's ridiculously easy.

Of course, that's just an opinion.

Although that's a great little site I would not go on hear say from the forum section. It could well be someone who is unhappy that a version of his beloved is coming to Wii and is saying that it's easy just because he has a impression that all Wii games are. I bet you nobody outside the development team has even played a build of the Wii game.

Wow, this looks like the best Dragonball game ever. I may have to purchase it if it's not too costly

Linkyshinks, the game has been out in Japan for about a month now. Megadaxzero, this isn't a Dragonball game. Dragonball bases its material off the Chinese legend of the Monkey King, as does this game.

I know, it was a joke. You know... People often do that on the internets...

Kind of hard to detect sarcasm in messages like that without seeing a face or hearing a voice...Smilie

Of course, that's just an opinion.

Sounds like a fun game indeed, but it'd be a shame if the reports of low quality and the easy difficulty level are true...and yes, come to think of it, the game has indeed been out in Japan for a while and might even have got something like 25/40 in Famitsu. Not sure, can't recall exactly.

*Starred* Math U Smilie, if you made me aware of that I would have understood. Bloody shame, as that is one aspect you cannot forgive. I hope this was not due to a recent developer trend of making Wii games easy. You know in respect to shooters it must be piss easy for developers to tweak gameplay to make it adequetely hard enough, so I am led to believe the previous, which is a big shame.

I love the Monkey King Legend, I have the book but I still not have not read all of it and will need to read the entire thing again.
