Nintendo Wii News | Resident Evil Starts Strong in Germany

By Adam Riley 09.07.2007 16

The latest chart details from Germany have just been revealed and it seems that amidst the Brain Training and Mario craziness over there, Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition has carved out a nice new entry for itself. To start with, Mario Party 8 has claimed No.1 for the second week in a row (the UK is the only European country still waiting for the game's release), whilst More Brain Training is at No.2 and its predecessor, Brain Training, takes the No.3 position.

Elsewhere, Codemasters' Overlord on Xbox 360 slides in at No.6, with Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition proving strong at No.7, whilst Animal Crossing: Wild World on DS rounds things off at No.10.

Stick around to see how RE4 fares in its second week of release in the UK in tomorrow's UK Chart Highlights article...

Germany eh? Which means they get like, 1/4 of the entire game. Must suck to be the average German that doesn't know importSmilie Good to see it doing so well, it's a very good game, and it is easily my most-played game as of late(except for Pok

1/4? a bit overstating huh? ^^'

well if anyone of us dont know how to import and buys the censored game here... their own problem for not having enough brain to research a bit Smilie

but i think there are a lot who doesnt even know that the german version is censored, and a lot who arent interested that much about the version differences...

always a thing of attitude

There's quite a lot cut from the game, can't tell you exactly what off the top off my head, but it certainly is a BIG difference between versions that way. Uncut RE4 FTWSmilie

German edition cuts the following: Assignment Ada and Mercenaries. The game itself - meaning blood, heads-off and co - is uncut. So German edition delivers more then the cut Japanese Edition for PAL(?).
I have to take a look at German magazine Gamepro, where it is tested this month, and I will give you an update if I remember to edit this post...

You can get the Austrian edition or international European 5-language version sold on www.okaysoft.de or other internet shops.

/edit: German edition cuts Mercenaries and added Ada Wong missions (But which one? All PS2 content? I do not know!). Aside from these cuts, this game is uncut, meaning that blood and heads may fly. Japanese Wii-edition is cut in blood and heads afaik...

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

Meh, RE4 isn't that gory anyway. And as Laurelin pointed out, there's not much in the way of gore that's censored. I wonder why they took the minigames out, though? Well strange.

If I remember correctly, a lot of the decapitations and stuff were cut, and some parts of the game itself as well, apart from Assignment Ada and Mercenaries, and indeed, that an Austrian Import would be a wise choice.. hmmz.. Gonna have to find where I read thatSmilie

Thank dog they never or hardly cut/censor stuff here in the Netherlands, I'd totally lose it if I couldn't just get my 'fix' in stores XD. We just have the full version of RE4Smilie

If I remember correctly what I've read about the cut version^^ We've got the full version here in the Netherlands, and I have no idea how to get a censored version apart from importing, which would be bordering on retardedSmilie

To be fair, it does suck being a German game. Their censorship body is so strict. And you know it's only because of the war, somehow, as well Smilie

Smilie,Smilie, they had better not mess with Crysis, it's being developed there, should be fine for other regions as with this.

The german version sounds absolutely crap, how can you take out the best bit of the game -Mercenaries. I feel sorry for their gamers, their fucking goverment takes the fucking piss-

Yerli Cevat Lead designer of Crysis has made earlier comments that he would move Crytek out of Germany if the law that restricts FPS games goes into effect for Germany/EU. He was dead serious and takes offense at politicians putting game development almost in the same category as child pornography.

Apparently some German politicians have used Yerli brother's immigration from Turkey as a tool to say they are negative influence from "foreigners." Obviously Cevat doesn't like that and sites the many international employees which strengthen Crytek as a company.

WTF is happening in Germany. [LS] Any German visitors that can explain why their cuntry is taking the piss.

I know, i can't but help think the same, Germans try to come across as a country against violence of any kind. Trying not to be stereotypical but they will always be remembered for one man or group.

Anyway it seems RE4 is going down a storm, it should surpass CAPCOM's 420k target. In the UK chart it has stayed at No.4 in the Full Price Chart and has went from the No.4 to No.8 in the Irish Top 20.

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the clich. They were the statement and the definition."

I thought decapitations were chopped out of the German edition of RE4, but I've never played it so I could well be wrong, and it seems that way by Laurelin's response. Assignment Ada and Mercenaries got cut not because of the violence but due to the fact that for some reason they forgot to submit a version of the game containing them both to the ratings board somehow, if I remember rightly. Perhaps they've been included in this Wii edition, helping to explain its success?

Has anybody else re-bought it? If so, what do you think? I picked it up the other day, still as good a game as it ever was and the controls are really accurate. Most forums I've read seem to have the consensus that it's easier, but I'm finding it harder!

If that's the case, that is one stupid oversight by Capcom the has meant that the germans now have a lesser game. [LS]

I bought it again, and I'm loving itSmilie Already completed it 8 times on the GC before, and now I'm just going to keep playing it on the WiiSmilie I find it easier to actually hit people(I've got an average of about 85% now, higher than before), but seeing there are actually more enemies on screen now, it can get a bit more difficult at times >.< Overall, still a great game, made even more awesome by the WiimoteSmilie

~Getting on C3's massive tits since 2K5.~

Just got this game and it's awesome. The Wii controls in my opinion, make the game easier but definitely a lot funner. Wonder how i ever played it with the GC controls after playing it on the Wii. The extra content that wasn't available in the GC version is also a nice touch.

Good to see the game doing so well despite the major drawbacks of the German version.

Some German polititians do think, that they can cut crime by reducing games to dust. It's when people who do not know how to built a house draw blueprints for it by saying 'Doors are drawbacks, because thieves enter that way, let's remove them'.
Unfortunately these fundamentalists are in charge here in Germany (those are not Nazis, they are only Yesterday's thinkers). Crap I say. It's why Germany has another rating board and it's the only country in Europe where PEGI does not count. But thanks to USK (rating agency) they make the best out of the stricts laws here, USK are quite cool...

It has nothing to do with wars. These same people try to break open constitution (Grundgesetz) for terrorist-fighting-purpose. That's much more evil.

I find your lack of faith disturbing!
