DS owners have been growing more and more thirsty for a true point and click adventure to appear on the touch-screen portable platform. At long last that thirst could well be quenched. You may not have heard of Crackpot Entertainment, but just like Autumn Moon consists of ex-LucasArts members and Telltale Games is resurrecting the company's Sam & Max franchise, this team has LucasArts pumping through its veins. In fact, the team's past credits roll covers the likes of these classic LucasArts adventure games: Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max Hit The Road, Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, and Curse of Monkey Island! Impressed? You should be...and now the team is working on the Nintendo DS.
Insecticide is being described as a "classically styled action adventure detective game" that will also adorn PCs everywhere and will bring "the look and feel of gritty gumshoe films into a futuristic city where insects have become the dominant race". Straight away it sounds extremely interesting. The game puts players in control of a bug detective who is conducting an investigation. There will be a classic adventure side to the proceedings, but also a good dose of action to maintain high levels of tension.
In order to unravel the mystery, you must try to interact with as much as you can in the surrounding world, digging up clues where you would least expect them by using the stylus "for precise navigation to investigate environments and expertly control special talents of the characters."
"The heart of classic detective novels and movies is to get the audience involved mentally, but now via PC and the Nintendo DS we can get players involved in a much more tactile arena [...] The mouse and the stylus are the key to the 'touch and feel' experience we're really aiming for with this game and I think that's something players are really going to enjoy."
- Rick Stults, Gamecock Media Group's Console Chief.
