Nintendo DS Media | First Scan of Final Fantasy IV 3D Remake!

Original Story - Over a million sales of Final Fantasy III in Japan alone have seen great success of the series on the DS. In a rather unsurprising but more than welcome more, Square-Enix have announced that they are developing a full remake of the next entry in the series, Final Fantasy IV.

The title was unveiled in full in the latest issue of Jump magazine in Japan. Final Fantasy IV makes the move to full on 3D in what is sure to be another huge hit. It hasn't been made clear if the engine used in FFIII will be used in FFIV, but it has been confirmed that the same team will be working on the title.

On top of the visual overhaul, Square Enix also plan to include new episodes that will allow players to go more in-depth with the story-line than ever before. Needless to say, all the character designs and game style have been completely redone and updated for the title.

No release date has been set for FFIV, but more is expected from the Square Enix party this weekend. Stay tuned for updates.

I didn't expect this at all. Especially as FFIV was only just not too long ago released on the GBA.

Still, this will undoubtedly sell by the bucketload. With all these FF games coming to Nintendo, and now 3D remakes galore, perhaps a FF7 port/remake for DS might not be out of the question after all...

I won't be completely happy until we get a full remake, or new episode of FF1 Tactics. That will consume my life when that arrives.

I will take any FF game, they are all great and to be honest, I prefer the handheld versions. Despite that - all of the old games are perfect for a similar remake on the Wii, that would be freakin' sweet.

well if that's the case glad i held out on buying VI for GBA it might be only a matter of time before it comes to DS as well.

I like Final Fantasy, but I don't like how Sqaure Enix are churning out remakes all over the place. They're even re-releasing the first two games for the third time, on the PSP. Bonkers.

I have fury. I have only (relatively) recently purchased this game for the GBA, and now the blackguards are making it into a DS game? I'm certainly not buying a game I already have in remade form, and I look down from a great height on such lazy commercialism.

Ive seen a short clip of it in motion on OTS and it does look lovely.

Lol Square Enix are going crazy with the DS with all these games, it's briliant and is in turn great for the Wii also i suppose.

Why 4? FF6 would have been a much better game to 3Dise...unless there gonna do the same with 5 and 6 aswell.

I dunno Superlink, I kinda liked the chibi-like graphics, even if it did make most of your party look like a crossbetween Weebles or the fat controller from Thomas the tank engine.

It was unique, but yeah the graphics on XI look like a Vast Improvement. I hope they add more story to this version or else I might aswell keep my version of XI.

It seems Matrix Software (the coding team behind FFIII DS) are back on-board for this, but it won't be Hiromichi Tanaka at the helm (which makes sense since he wasn't involved in FFIV, if I remember correctly, instead moving on to the first Seiken Densetsu instead at the time).

The graphics in this show how the DS could easily do the original FFVII...it's whether or not the video clips could be compressed enough from the PSone game. However, the DS card size is reportedly being upped to 256MB for the release of DQIX later this year.

So who else thinks this means we won't get FFVII on DS? It seems like S-E just want to remake the older FFs. 3D FFVI could be really cool.

Actually, the first final fantasy was meant to be the Final fantasy, it says so in the game itself. Smilie

Yeah, Superlink. It may be so, that the newer FF (from VII above) are bound to Sony-hardware. It is possible, though, is it not?

I like FF IV being remade. It looks great, I didn't know, that these characters would be possible to be that detailed...
they look good. And watching the character-studies on the right of the scan, I would say Yoshitaka Amano was behind this. Looking good. More mature and older with muscle structure and fairly good armor.

I think I will like this, as I like FF3. I'm playing it right now.

I find your lack of faith disturbing!
