Nintendo Wii News | SNK Reconfirms Neo Geo on Virtual Console

By Mike Mason 18.04.2007 13

Talking to IGN, President of SNK Playmore USA Ben Herman has reconfirmed that Neo Geo games will be appearing on Wii's Virtual Console service in all regions, beginning as early as this summer. We can expect to see the likes of the King of Fighter and Metal Slug series (despite Metal Slug Anthology being released), amongst the dozens of other Neo Geo titles, appearing for a price point "just a little above the Super NES point".

The plan is for a couple of titles to come out every month and distribute them evenly and regularly, unlike some of the consoles currently on the service (we're looking at you, N64). Asked whether Neo Geo games would be coming to other consoles' download services, Herman said that if other console manufacturers ask, they will deliver.

Herman also ruled out original downloadable Wii games from SNK Playmore in the near future, choosing instead to stick with the retro side and Neo Geo for now, and stated that they would move "definitely" forward with an online component in their future Wii titles as other third parties do so.

What surprises me is, that Virtual Console seems to be first adress to release retro-games. That's astounding, given the short time the service is on. It makes me glad. Wii has some advantage over x360 and even ps3, which is still struggling with downloadable play, it seems.

I do not know many SNK-games, but Wikipedia has some listed. I think pricing is a bit high, since every SNES game costs 800 points, meaning 8 EUR here in Europe. So it may be 900 Points, but still - a bit too much for these games, don't you think?

And why are there not many N64-games being released? I think games from this console look way old. F-Zero lets me think I took some pills and other games are really blocky. Bitmap games are looking way more nice. Bitmaps have something of a more timeless patina...

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

Great, give me Samurai Showdown, and all the KOFs. LS

The Neo Geo AES European homecart version of Kizuna Encounter (Fu'un Super Tag Battle) is one of the most expensive and rare video games of all time, there is rumored to be no more than 10 copies, three confirmed circulating in Europe and the US, and the last one sold for around $12,000 $USD.

This has to go on VC!!!!!!!
but then the price of the cartridge might plummetSmilie

Avoid Games Like the Plague, productivity++

Zero, I thought the same thing. *lol*

That would not de-value the original that much i reckon.

I wonder is the full assortment of Neo Geo games from all their platforms going to be available, cos that would be nice. LS

Awsome snk has some really dope fighting games that I haven't played since I was 9

Here is the list of the top 15 NeoGeo Games we should wait for: uvlist.net

Waku Waku 7, Magical Drop 3, Shock Troopers, Spin Master, The Last Blade, Money Puzzle Exchanger, Baseball Stars 2, The King of Fighters '96, 2020 Super Baseball, The King of Fighters 2002, The King of Fighters '98 - Dream Match Never Ends, Blazing Star, and Samurai Spirits: Amakusa Kourin. All these games look cool or I've played it and know its great, but no metal slug unless they bring one that isn't on MS anthology and that game Neo Mr. Do! looks horrible.

KOFs and Samurai Spirits certainly, Waku Waku was also a great fighter, but what of Pulstar and moreso Viewpoint, that was fantastic game, Ghost Pilots and Wind Jammers are others.

Personally i would rather prefer to see a very rare game that was never released here- JuJu, a platform shooter with this small monkey as the lead character, that game was brilliant. LS

It was released on the NES/Famicom in japan but never here. LS

It was called Toki in the west, and JuJu Densetsu in the east.

awsome news Smilie im a big fan of KoF

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

KoF? Pfff... It's all about Waku Waku 7. The Virtual Console could be the place to go for fighting fans with SNK on board, since as far as I can remember the Neo Geo's library was made up of about 99% fighters...

Well you know... If they didn't cost more than
