Nintendo Wii News | NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams - More Details Revealed

By Adam Riley 02.04.2007 16

Following the confirmation of a new NiGHTS for Nintendo's Wii, new details of the hotly anticipated game have been revealed via various Japanese websites.

Famitsu is reporting that SonicTeam USA is readying the sequel to the Saturn classic for a Winter 2007 launch (2008 in Europe according to the UK division) and now has the name 'NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams'. The game's main feature will be how the gameplay works around the movement of the Wii controller, with players being able to glide, drift, ascend and do loop-the-loops with the greatest of ease.

"In 1996, we created the NiGHTS character to achieve a concept of 'being refreshed from being able to fly in the sky'. 11 years later, at last, we have broken our silence. NiGHTS will now fly in a new dream world: new stages, new story, and on the new Wii platform. Please look forward to NiGHTS and friends exploring this brand new adventure."
- Takashi Izuka, SonicTeam USA & Producer of NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams.

"We plan to deliver a gameplay experience never before seen on the Wii with NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams. The game takes full advantage of the unique Wii Remote controller enabling gamers to guide NiGHTS through spectacularly designed dream worlds intertwined with a story about hope and courage."
Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc.

As a fantasy jester called NiGHTS, players will fly through Nightopia, a rich and vibrant world where dreams come to life. With the innovative Wii Remote, gamers will experience a heightened sense of gliding, spiraling, and looping through seven mystical dream worlds packed with high-flying adventure. Players must find inventive ways to confront the "Nightmarens" from the neighboring dark world of Nightmare using amazing acrobatic skills, freedom of flight, and other special abilities to protect Nightopia. NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams is an adventure filled with courage, hope and inspiration that the whole family will enjoy this holiday season.

Hmm, slightly tacky subtitle, but I'm not complaining. New niche game what no-one apart from me will buy... yes!!

From the SHadow the Hedgehog team no less! Get in!

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

You're the official NiGHTS bummer round here Grums, how do you officially think this game will turn out? I sense negativity from your general direction.

Pretty poo.

That article is well bleak Smilie

They had BETTER not ruin it, I'm really looking forward to this, but Sonic Team (being the worst company in the world except Ubisoft) would ruin it unless they're being forcefed vitamins into their brains with huge pointy syringes Smilie

Well, that link doesn't exactly fill me with optimism. Smilie

Screwing the rules since 1989.

Sonic Team ey? Should be quite interesting... Smilie

I just had a horrible thought! Imagine if the controls are anything but moving a pointer on the 2D plane!

well im excited!!! and dont know why you bitches are complaining!!! i cant wait to see some game footage!!! Smilie

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

I absolutely have nor idea what NiGHTS is about and the screens are psychedelic in nature. I hope this game will be good, because the screens show some potential.

But I fear Grumbler may be right and his link undermines that. Thatnks Grumbler, for this. I read it with interest. It seems to harden what I think about Sega for some time now - in fact since they closed their wonderful Dreamcast down and started working on 3D-Sonics. They didn't come out ever since with a blockbuster game. Such a big company should have at least have one big franchise with bombing games coming around from it. Only Hudson does the same and brings us Bomberman and... wing Island. But even Ubisoft, EA and above all Nintendo got great franchises. I wish Sega nonetheless all the best and do so hope NiGHTS will be good.

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

I've never played NiGHTS before so this could be an interesting new venture for me. (if it's any good that is)
