Nintendo DS News | Tecmo & Cing Create New Detective Game

By Adam Riley 01.04.2007 3

Following the successful release of Hotel Dusk on the DS from Cing, the team is back and now working with Tecmo on a new detective outing on the two-screened portable. This comes off the back of Tecmo announcing Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword and Monster Rancher DS earlier in the week.

Developed by Cing, the team behind Another Code and Hotel Dusk, the game is actually influenced by Tecmo's Masahiro Shidara's mother! During an official presentation, Shidara spoke of how his mum asked for a copy of Brain Training and a DS, which pushed him towards considering recent changes in the Industry and how 30% of all DS owners are of an older-than-expected age.

This led him to take the producing reins on DS Kyotaro Nishimura Suspense New Detective Series: Kyoto, Atami, Zekkai no Kotou Satsui no Wana. Kyotaro Nishimura is a prolific mystery writer who has written more than four hundred novels to date and is working as a supervisor of this new game, as well as providing original ideas for the story.

The protagonist is Isshin Arata, a young detective set on following in his murdered father's footsteps. Whilst in Kyoto, Japan on business, he and his assistant Aska Kyou end up right up to their necks in a murder mystery.

There are two parts to the game - the main Story Mode, where you work your way through the scenario mentioned above, investigating scenes using the touch-screen and analysing documents to find clues and determine who may or may not be involved; and the Detective Mode. This latter option has gamers taking part mini mysteries that last anywhere between three and five minutes. An example includes checking out a crime scene and looking to see if anything it out of place whilst also trying to decipher a message left in blood by the side of the dead body there. These are aimed at true portable gamers who want to play quickly whilst on the way to and from work.

Expect further details to emerge in the near future...

Taking into account Cing's recent otuput, this can only be a good thing. I'll keep an eye on this one.

Screwing the rules since 1989.

Awesome news. Hotel Dusk was a very cool game. Makes me glad to know that we are getting more and more quirky games like this. I remember back in the SNES/Genesis days where games like this would have been overlooked in a heart beat because they were too "risky" to bring overseas.

Don't hate, congratulate!

Anything from Cing gets my vote straight away Smilie
