Nintendo News | Wii is the Ultimate Porno Portal

In an increasing bid to shield children from the evils of the communications world, Californian based faith group are planning to attack with the Wii and other gaming devices with its capabilities to be a way of accessing adult content.

According to a press release found by Kotaku, "the Nintendo Wii gaming console has a wiittle porn problem. That's right; this seemingly innocent family game console has a dirty little secret. It has the dubious ability to access pornography via the internet and most parents are not aware of this fact".

The releases stresses that devices with internet capability, such as the Nintendo Wii, carry the potential for children to access material with parents unaware of the machine's functionality. The report also suggests that although children can be monitored at home, at "airports, Starbucks, schools, and even entire cities give people the opportunity to log on the internet with a Wi-Fi device like the Wii".

The group want to encourage parents to be in the know about what their kids have access to, acknowledging that although the Wii is a fun console for a variety of different ages, it can be problematic when a young child sits at his local coffee house with one hand under a table and a portable TV and Wii beside him.

let that be a lesson to you Nintendo - try as you might to protect yourself - the media will do all it takes to make a case about porn/bad lanugage/graphics/mature themes - etc.

This is ridiculous, the only thing i like to shake when playing the Wii is my Wii mote and nothing else lol.

But on a serious note Opera could make sure there is parental controls on the full version that kick in automatically if the Parental Controls are switched on, that and make sure browsing is made easier than what it is at present,-

I'd understand this a lot more if the DS had a built in browser, but kids can easily access adult material in the home without the need for a Wii - through the net, late night TV, their own friends.

Just another chance to attack a feature for home consoles and gaming - the PSP was barely mentioned in the list, nor other home consoles, just Wii.

It's probably because in the eyes of the media Nintendo's consoles are still the kid's ones. No-one cares if anyone over the age of 12 looks at porn, but if they're younger the media explodes. It's funny, because I doubt anyone over the age of 12 would be insane enough to buy a PS3 to be honest...

The fact that Wii draws so much attention and generally large amount of users in general makes it a much more likely candidate to be highlighted in these kinds of things, although it still doesn't excuse ignorance and idiocy.

also they said Wi-fi devices like the Wii, not Wii specifically in referring to Starbucks, airports comments etc.

I personally wonder why pornography, or at least very mild forms of it are even censored from kids, but that's an entirely different discussion.

Well, I've noticed that the internet you use is the issue. If your internet blocks that type of stuff on the computer, then it will block it on the Wii, because it's using the same internet.

Yeah I'm not too sure why it seems to be the general opinion that seeing some woman's tits is going to have an adverse psychological effect on your child. It's not like the first time you see the sex education video at school you say 'OH MY GOD, I'M SCARRED FOR LIFE! Smilie'. In fact you've probably already looked at loads of porn by then.
