Nintendo News | Sega Follows EA, Switches Development from PSP to DS

By Adam Riley 22.02.2007 31

Follow EA's turnaround to support the DS more than the PSP, it seems that Sega is also ready to admit there is more worth in pushing product onto Nintendo's portable. In a long, detailed report on Japanese website Nikkei, Sega's Mineko Okamura stated (thanks to Jonnyram of NeoGAF for the translation) he believes we are all standing in front of the entrance to a new gaming world where anyone can get involved in gaming, anywhere, anytime, especially as Internet access builds up, as it holds the key to the future of the Games Industry. He mentions that since so many non-gaming people love using Social Network Services such a My Space, there is a lot of potential there to tap into their mind-frame by putting games in these particular channels.

Also discussed was how Sega is planning strategies for the translation of Love and Berry collection and Mushiking, but are quickly realising that many changes will be necessary. For instance, Love and Berry holds so many anime and Japanese cultural references that in its current state most Westerners would be put off due to a lack of understanding. As for Mushiking, which focuses on beetles and other insects, there are not as many insects in certain countries, so the idea of collection would not be as interesting. However, Dinosaur King was singled out as a game that would not require anywhere near as much work to launch around the rest of the world.

Finally, it has been revealed that the DS will be favoured more than the PSP as the year goes on, with several games in development that they have yet to be announced. But could these be? Sega has previously stated interest in doing another Chu Chu Rocket, which would work wonders if online as well. Or perhaps something along the lines of Phantasy Star (which appeared on GBA as a compilation of past games) or the Shining RPGs (Shining Soul I and II, plus Shining Force: Resurrection of the Dragon all fared moderately well on GBA)? Surely a Love and Berry sequel, another Sangokushi Taisen, Shiren and/or Mind Quiz follow-up would be strong possibilities. But why not let us know what Sega games you would like to see on DS?

If they're gonna keep trawling out the Mega-Games-Collections-Gems-Compilations, then I propose a Sonic 1,2,3,& Knuckles (plus all variations) and CD collection on DS. Spinball can go rot in the tenth level of hell where it belongs.

Otherwise Streets of Rage 4: Deadly Smell or whatever would be good with some online link-up.

Less posty, more gamey.

im sick of sonic... sega should create something new for once... not keep making sequals/spin-offs of Sonic....

Id like to see Billy Hatcher 2 Smilie

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

sounds good, dont really like sega no more or any of there games, always played tekken over v5, and stopped playing sonic after it turned 3d, much like ive not played a single mario or zelda 3d game (because retro rules!!!) until TP

Sonic!!!
