Nintendo News | The Godfather Wii Details Emerge

By Adam Riley 11.01.2007 11

So far we have only been made aware that EA was working on a Wii version of The Godfather. Now, though, the company has released preliminary details of this update.

Electronic Arts and Paramount Digital Entertainment today announced The Godfather Blackhand Edition for Nintendo's Wii console. This new version of The Godfather apparently gives an "enhanced combat experience with motion-based Blackhand Control by integrating Nintendo's innovative Wii controller". The game allows you to take over the Big Apple in a fully interactive open-world game based on the classic film by Paramount Pictures and the critically-acclaimed book by Mario Puzo.

The game is scheduled to ship in March 2007 over in the US.

Update - First screens from the Wii build inside...

The first screens from the game have emerged courtesy of European site Gamefront.

Be sure to check out additional screens in the game's album below.

Ah...now this sounds interesting. Question is will they be using the Wii dev kits or enhanced PS2 kits for the graphics engine......?

I hope they at least do something other than controls for the Wii build, sure the Wii's primary feature is the uniqueness of the remote/nunhuck in combination but it shouldn't be a step down for graphics.

I hope EA can prove the critics wrong by being a bit more imagative this gen.

This game has potential but i ain't banking on it being great.

I second that jb (well I kinda said that as well but hey lol). As was evident from E3'06, Games like Sonic, Mario Galaxy Smash Bros Brawl and Metroid Corruption although non HD were graphically awesome and Superior to visuals produced by gamecube, they had some very visceral games on show for Wii which was one of the reasons why I was so stoked about getting the console. As you said functionality is the main focus of the console but for crying out loud it's 3 times the power of gamecube and we'd also like to see that in the visuals. Let's just hope that Developers really step this up in this post launch period.

But EA seem to be doing quite good with their SSX control scheme.

Not really interested in ANOTHER port though.

I'm guessing these ports are all the games Nintendo never received for the Cube?

To give EA credit they've actually had a decent go with the Wii unlike Nintendos new whore Ubisoft.

This may be good.

As long as it's not just a shameless port of the PS2 version it might be o.k... At least they're bothering to put some motion sensing in, though whether it's any good is another matter...

Still a proud member of the 'omfg amazing water in games' society

Its not only motion sencing, but they added content. New missions, bribbing system, and mores stuff to do. With the motion controls, this seems to be the most compleat version of the game....much like Madden 07. Smilie

Well, considering you make a Wii game with a Wii dev kit, I'd say they'll be using the Wii dev kits.

I know what you mean though. Smilie

I'm not too stoked about this game. I thought it could be quite fun on the 360, but, well, it wasn't. It is quite odd, however, to note that the PS3, GC, DS and GBA will be the only consoles not receiving this game. A sign of things to come. Probably not, but it is still interesting nonetheless Smilie

Actually the PS3 is getting a different version of the game:p

well to be fair Madden of the Wii is meant to be the best Madden game ever.

It also had an 86% rank on gamerankings
